We visited DAS last Saturday, and I can’t say enough great things about our experience. Every member of the staff was absolutely phenomenal, from the ladies at the front desk to several of the kennel guys who helped us. Super professional and helpful, but also extremely friendly and obviously passionate about finding homes for the many animals they care for. We found the perfect dog for us, and we already love her so much. There are literally hundreds of pets to choose from, so please go check them out before going to a pet store or breeder.

Shelter work can be hectic, but the staff here all do their best and their hard work shows. Come prepared for a wait, they have lots of animals to take care of and lots of work goes into running a shelter. I’ve fostered kittens with them before, got my cat microchipped for a low price, and got my sweet baby Zuko (formerly Bubbles) here. Sadly the needs of the community can outweigh resources, but they are truly doing their best here. I know people are upset about wait times in shelter and for animal services requests, but you have to remember Dallas is a huge city! Have some compassion for the staff that works hard everyday here! Thank you for all you do for animals!! I hope everyone here knows they are appreciated and their work matters!

I drove over an hour to rescue two girls from being euthanized. Once i got there, one gentleman man was so very nice. He guided me to sit in the shade. Another Gentleman came out with one of my soon to be pet (Nova) Then told me just wait and he would bring the other out (Big Momma) While sitting in the chair, outside, waiting for this worker to bring Big Momma. Well, Nova was whimpering and barking at another dog being walked. Mind you, in a non aggressive way. A female worker rolls her eyes at Nova, and gives the look of disgust. After a few more minutes of barking, This female worker turns to me and RUDELY says "can you get that dog out of here! shes just being too loud, and aggressive to our other pets. SERIOUSLY???!!!! YALL WERE THE ONES WHO ASKED ME TO SIT IN THAT CHAIR, AND BROUGHT ME THE DOG!!!

Walk-ins get priority vs if you do everything online. Everything was done still spent waiting over 45mins at a desk with no one there when u go in they tell u to wait at the desk. When I first went into the medical to ask where to go they said I need u to check in at the desk out side again no one was there. Finally the attitude of the people I get there is a lot to do but these people suck this place sucks

It's wonderful that they do their best to take care of the animals. It doesn't make any sense to have to call 311 for an animal you found for them to pick it up & they tell you it can be 1 to 3 business days before they do that. If you bring an abandoned or lost pet here, the intake process can take 1 to 4 hours (depending on how busy it is). Oh and don't think about leaving, then you'll have to start the wait time all over. There needs to be a faster system on getting the intake done. I can't sit here for 1 - 3 hours waiting. But I'm an animal lover and don't want to be like the looser that left this baby in the 104 degree heat yesterday. See pics.

I adopted Leyla, she's a great dog. Everyone made my adoption process so easy and I'm so happy with my new furry family member.
