Our young lady is so much fun. She is a little shy. We adopted her late June so she is still adjusting. Meet Gracen. We call her Gracie or kitty. She is spoiled rotten already. We love her 💕 She has come a long way. We spoil her. She is loved 🥰
Ensure you lie to these people if you have indoor outdoor pets. We've adopted multiple spay/neutered pets over the years. But they will not adopt out if there is a chance they will be outdoors. This is what causes people to buy rather than adopt.
Saturday August 30th 2024 1:00 p.m. We saw three pups running around in this area after my wife convinced me to catch them , we had dog food in the car which we always do.We stopped at a gasoline station and asked anyone if they had any suggestions as to where we could take them . We were directed to this place (Helotes Humane Society), the persons directing us told us that they were friendly and cared about homeless or stray creatures. We found the place and my wife went into the office by the front entrance. She wasn’t in the office but 2 minutes when she came outside telling me that a volunteer there, we didn’t get her name and a visitor there immediately and rudely told my wife,” O’ NO , We do not have any space for any dog much less three. The volunteer there came outside and I saw that she wore sunglasses over her regular glasses and she suggested we take them to another facility here in Helotes or that we go to the San Antonio pound so they could conveniently be euthanized (put to death ~killed), we were shocked and hurt by her cold hearted response and we left extremely disillusioned by this allegedly caring place for homeless creatures.
While HHS wants to make it seem like they care about the animals; they are picky about who can adopt a pet. Rather than have a pet go to a loving and caring family they have restrictions and requirements that don’t seem to put the pet’s best interest at heart, but rather their own. Will never again attempt to adopt from HHS as it seems they would rather hold on to the pets versus getting adopted. P.S. - We couldn’t adopt because we don’t have another dog in our house. After explaining that our 2 dogs died of old age in 2020 and 2023, both had live 19+ years with us.
Came here to drop off a cat that was in severe danger, and let me tell you that these people are doing God’s work. The amount of cats these people are helping is incredible. They don’t have enough help or resources to help all of the animals that come in. I’ll pray for these individuals and animals here 🙏🏽
Application is intrusive and very lengthy, even when you want to adopt a pet from here, you can't! Because they are all in foster care. Sorry, we're not going to some stranger's home. We had a wonderful experience at Animal Care Services and we got the pup WE wanted, not the one HHS wanted US to have. Our chi/pin got his favorite, a lab mix pup AND we saved not only her life, but the lives of her brother and mother the next day. Skip this Helotes Humane Society "shelter", there are NO pets here. We used to shop at their thrift store regularly, not anymore.
