The staff are amazing! I adopted my dog from here. They are separate from the main shelter, but you can adopt just as fast. They were very helpful and kept me in the loop to not miss out on my friend. We renamed him, frank, for frank and beans! Lol They do fix three pet before they leave, and it's really affordable. I paid 125 for microchip and for him to be fixed. When I went through a reg location, it was 600 for my cat to be fixed!!! Prices are different PER friend FYI. I'd ask. I don't work there, so I don't exactly know. Save a friend!

I adopted Honey on Oct 12th when we came to look around on my daughters 18th birthday. We didnt know when we came, but they had an event going on that made honeys adoption fees covered. We knew we wanted a smaller breed dog, and we knew we wanted a puppy...even tho I now know they are ALOT of work! The kennels are VERY loud, I would suggest bringing earplugs. Otherwise the place was clean and the staff was doing chores the entire time we were there. Honey, her momma, and her siblings were in the very last cage on the last row, and as soon as I saw her I KNEW she was the one! She even shares a birthday with my younger son! The staff was helpful, and let me know that honey must not be put on the ground at any point. They let me spend the needed time with her at a table outside the building. The paperwork was easy and all done online, the whole process took about an hour. It was a great experience. I'm not sure Honey is going to be the "small dog" we were hoping for, which is totally fine, but we did just do a DNA test to find out her breed mix! My guess is JRT, Pit, Lab, and maybe corgi. Either way she's super cute and we love her so much! First photo is adoption day, last 2 photo are from 11.20. Thanks SAPA for the opportunity to adopt Honey!

The staff members that were in the kennels were very helpful. The front desk was not, my partner and I came for two consecutive days to make sure we were sure about the pet we chose and she was perfect. We spent 2 hours with her. When we’d made our decision we went up to the front desk and they told us she was being picked up by a different rescue in a hour and shouldn’t have been out in the first place. We asked what rescue so we could pick her up there and they said they couldn’t tell us but we could email to inquire about our information being passed on to the new rescue. I emailed them and they said they have no record of her being admitted to San Antonio pets alive or being transferred ( even though I had her pet ID, photos & videos ) That she simply didn’t exist in their system. All the animals were visibly infested with ticks and fleas, and would get a flea preventative upon adoption. This place was filthy , the animals weren’t kept up with and they were very un organized.

I got the cutest Australian Cattle Dog mix there is. Her name is Daphne. We went looking for a little pup and found the perfect match. She had something wrong with her skin, and infection I believe, so the ppl working gave us medication to treat her. They were patient with us while asking questions and explained it wasn’t harmful to other dogs nor humans. All her siblings had it too!! Within two weeks her skin cleared up and she grew her fur in. When we decided to adopt her, they wanted to get her spayed. She was ready to be taken home by the next day!!

The lady who helped us out was very nice, informative and helped speed the process along of getting our new fur baby home. We love Pecan and he's learning fast for an almost 3 month old pup.

I recently had a bad experience, I feel the "foster mom / pets alive worker" was overreacting on me adopting a pup I was so excited to adopt. In the past I did adopted a pup named Joy but we had just moved and found out we had a breed restriction which would not allow Staffordshire breed, which Joy was a Staffordshire so I had to return her to the foster mom and we were very sad about it because she is such a wonderful pup. So a couple of months have passed so I found a boxer mix pup Dixon, his profile states he's a boxer mix which I'm looking for who would be perfect, since I already have a boxer mix at home. The adopted counselor reached out to me said she's fostering him and if I would like to meet him. I replied and she went through my application and saw that Joy was returned because of breed restrictions, she feels that it won't be a good fit because he is "some" Staffordshire, but he clearly is a boxer mix. I just feel like now that I had a breed restriction incident I cannot adopt anymore at this place it's not fair and it's sad because I really wanted to introduce this pup to my family. I donate to Pets Alive and I actually work in the animal field and I volunteer, just so unfortunate and upsetting. I am very disappointed with how this worked out.
