I used to bring my pets here, but after this experience, I think I’ll be going elsewhere. Two days after the appointment, they called me with some of the blood work results, but when I asked about the urine test results, I found out they hadn’t even sent the sample out yet. This was the most important test and the main reason I brought my cat in, not to mention the high cost I paid. It feels like they prioritize money over the care of their patients. I’d rather go to a place that offers better service and more reasonable prices. Sad.....I'm really disappointed.
My cat had small cell lymphoma and Bowen’s in situ, and was treated here for 2.5 years. Each visit, she was so well taken care of and the doctors were very informative and patient with me, sometimes taking time to answer my many questions at the end of the night if my cat had to change medications or developed new symptoms. They took very good care of her until the very end, and each staff member was warm, compassionate, and knowledgeable. With each new medication, from pills to shots, they took the time to make sure I was confident taking care of my kitty. They took the time to make sure I was okay the last time I brought her in, even though she had passed suddenly in the middle of the night and we had brought her at in 3am. I could not have asked for a more competent and caring team that kept my baby alive for 2.5 years after diagnosis.
Don’t bring your critically ill pet here. Read below for details of our extremely unpleasant experience: We brought our cat here when she was having a medical emergency and was unable to be seen by our regular vet. After they took our cat in, they immediately ushered us into an exam room and asked us to pre-authorize up to $1,700 in unspecified medical treatment. When we asked what the money would be used for, they could not provide specifics and told us, “things like x-rays.” We had already done many tests to diagnose an ongoing issue and our vet had sent the test results to VCA. They were uninterested in this information, and gave us the option to front the money or decline treatment. At this point the representative told us that our cat's vitals were “really bad” and the only way to start treatment right away was to authorize the charges. It felt like a high-pressure sales situation when we were worried and emotional over the welfare of our cat, who we suspected might be dying. We declined to authorize the $1,700 and were then moved to a different room. Sitting in the room waiting for the vet, we realized that it is the room they use to euthanize pets. The vet then came in and told us they were unable to stabilize our cat and that she was having trouble breathing. We were told the only recourse was to put her down. So, did they know our cat wasn’t going to make it but tried to extract $1700 from us in the process, or did they just stop attempting to provide medical care when they realized that we were not going to give them a blank check? We ended up euthanizing our pet. It is likely that this was medically the right call, but the way they forced us into a sales situation, which felt like they were trying to extract money from us at the start of the visit makes me question the integrity of the medical care received. This questionable business practice has removed the comfort of knowing that we gave our pet a peaceful end at the right time. The vets who work here must know that their staff is reading from a script. It is hard to imagine this is the kind of experience vets want for customers, but it is what this business model makes people feel (cf. many similar reviews). If you’re a vet who works here, why haven’t you left yet?!
I called to ask about the charges for my dog. The vet I spoke to was extremely rude and wouldn’t listen to what I was trying to ask her. She told me my dog would be ready in 20 min and to come get him. I tried to go over the items she was charging and ask her if they were ALL necessary to treat my dog for an upset stomach. It was almost $2,,000. She didn’t want to listen and rudely told me if I couldn’t afford it yo take him somewhere else. I told her I would come get my dog and I didn’t like her. I hung up. When my husband went to pick up our dog he was told I threatened the vet. A complete lie and I am going to file a formal complaint.
My dog needed a minor surgery and they did a great job. Extremely communicative and Jesús, our tech was very good at explaining everything and making sure I understood what was going on and how to care for my dog after. Dr. Tupper did a great job with the procedure. They were very transparent about the wait times and cost and in both instances did better than their initial estimate. The front desk staff was also very kind and easy to communicate with. Good job to the team there!
I’ve been to many vets trying to find a good fit for my two dogs. When my rottie was diagnosed with lymphoma we took her here and I’ve never felt more comfortable leaving her at a clinic. The vet techs have been the nicest and she’s getting used to them and likes them so much more than any other vets she’s been to. Never been able to calmly lay down in the waiting room.
