Description Animal Haven is a nonprofit organization that finds homes for abandoned cats and dogs throughout the Tri-State area, and provides behavior intervention when needed to improve chances of adoption. Founded in 1967, we operate an animal shelter in Manhattan. We also provide programs that enhance the bond between animals and people.

Volunteered here today and I have to say it was an amazing experience. These people care about animals and are extremely good at taking care of them. John Stewart got his dog here and if you are looking to adopt, give them a try.

We went to Animal Haven twice to meet some pups! Both times were really smooth experiences. Understandably, you may have to wait a little bit to meet the dogs, but both times, we were there for less than an hour. Both times, the staff at the front desk were extremely helpful and transparent - I only caught the name of one of the staff who helped us, May, but both times, we were guided on what to expect with the different dogs we met. When we were interviewed, May was extremely thorough in explaining the adoption process and the kind of care we should expect. All the volunteers were also really nice and made sure to ask us to either wear gloves or hand sanitize between visits with each dog we met. The whole place was kept really clean and seemed very organized and well-run. I haven't yet adopted a dog from here (timing hasn't yet worked out), so I'm sure I'll be back to complete my review once I do, but I felt inclined to write about my great experiences so far! I'm very confused about the negative reviews on here. However, I'm glad that these negative reviews confirm that Animal Haven does a good job of vetting people who may not be ready to take care of pets.

Best animal shelter around for dogs and cats. A no kill shelter that treasures every guest. They are truly a blessing to our furry friends. Very professional and thorough screening for potential adoptions are unparalleled. They really care about every pet and find the right owner to match them. They are angels on earth.

11 years ago, we adopted our first kitten here when she was two years old. She continues to bring joy to our lives, and the approval response for the adoption application took about 1-2 weeks after completion. I must say, I fully support the stringent approval process and review, as many irresponsible individuals lack the patience needed for animal care. Grateful for the dedication of the volunteers.

Wonderful place- all the cats and dogs are clearly well cared for, there are notes for each candidate so you know if they're safe to pet or "sassy." The volunteers who take you around know each animal very well, and can give you some of their back story. They also have full history for any vaccinations and health issues for everyone. Very clean facility, nice staff who are excellent at communication. Of the shelters and "cat cafes" I checked out Anial haven gave me the most confidence to go ahead and adopt. I adopted a wonderful adult female who is an absolute joy. If I had the space I would adopt again.

Thank you for all the staff and volunteers for all the hard work they do to keep pets safe. I was referred by one of my colleagues who previously adopted his pet from here. We asked for any available male cats and the staff was really friendly, explaining how the process work. We went to the room and played with cats and that’s how we chose our lovely Loki (Colton previously). It was important for me to choose a no kill shelter. All the pets are well cared and held in clean conditions. They have glass doors in the rooms for transparency. I’m so happy that we were able to adopt our Loki the same day. It took us about 1,5 h to go through application process and I think it’s great that they are taking time to make sure the pet is given in good hands. We had a pet carrier bag with us and we took our Loki home right away. We paid the fee and they even gave us package of food for the cat to make adaptation process smoother as moving to a new home is already stressful. The first days Loki was hiding and didn’t eat much but we made sure to give him some time and space. Right now he is the owner of the house, playing , having fun and exploring his first Christmas tree. We’re very grateful for our newest family member! Highly recommend this shelter! Many thanks to volunteers and staff again!
