Description Animal Haven is a nonprofit organization that finds homes for abandoned cats and dogs throughout the Tri-State area, and provides behavior intervention when needed to improve chances of adoption. Founded in 1967, we operate an animal shelter in Manhattan. We also provide programs that enhance the bond between animals and people.

Quality Animal Rescue in NYC. But I don't like adoption process. Animals in this case dogs had to be screened online before you were given a chance to see them (assuming they were in the building and not at a foster home). -1 star. Second was pricing. Their young puppy cost was highest of rescues ( Note cost DOES include fixing and 1st years shots and ID chip. )

What a wonderful shelter. These folks are doing God's work. Poor unwanted animals find homes. I understand it may be challenging to adopt a pet here, I didn't get the kitten I had my heart set on, but that's life. They take many applications for one animal and so it may or may not work out. But still this is a wonderful spot for animals who need a home. That's what matters in the end, the animals find a good caring home. I've been to other shelters this is nicely designed and they do a lot with space which is a premium in Manhattan. I'd also like to give a shout out to Kate, who was wonderful and so helpful.

Volunteered here today and I have to say it was an amazing experience. These people care about animals and are extremely good at taking care of them. John Stewart got his dog here and if you are looking to adopt, give them a try.

We went to Animal Haven twice to meet some pups! Both times were really smooth experiences. Understandably, you may have to wait a little bit to meet the dogs, but both times, we were there for less than an hour. Both times, the staff at the front desk were extremely helpful and transparent - I only caught the name of one of the staff who helped us, May, but both times, we were guided on what to expect with the different dogs we met. When we were interviewed, May was extremely thorough in explaining the adoption process and the kind of care we should expect. All the volunteers were also really nice and made sure to ask us to either wear gloves or hand sanitize between visits with each dog we met. The whole place was kept really clean and seemed very organized and well-run. I haven't yet adopted a dog from here (timing hasn't yet worked out), so I'm sure I'll be back to complete my review once I do, but I felt inclined to write about my great experiences so far! *Edit: We got our dream pup! 2 months ago, we met a 3 month old puppy named Neo. We went back a day later to apply for him but we were too late, he got scooped before we could get him! About 10 days later, he was returned, but we were traveling. With a bit of back and forth communication, our contact at AH, May, helped us successfully adopt Neo about a month later. He's the best addition to our family. ❤️ Thank you, Animal Haven!!

Best animal shelter around for dogs and cats. A no kill shelter that treasures every guest. They are truly a blessing to our furry friends. Very professional and thorough screening for potential adoptions are unparalleled. They really care about every pet and find the right owner to match them. They are angels on earth.

DO NOT SUPPORT THIS SHELTER! They are liars, cruel, heartless and unprofessional. I came in with my autistic 9 year old son that was going through a lot of bullying in school and wanted a kitten of his own. They seemed so nice and helpful, my son picked out a perfect kitten for himself. We were told to come back in a few days because a vet had to "check him and make sure he's 100% healthy and cleared to go!", ok fine, we came back, picked him up, great. Our first day home we noticed he had diarrhea, I figured he was nervous and needed time to adjust. A MONTH later, he still had diarrhea and with blood in it. I called the shelter, they said prebiotics will cure him, then change his diet, buy pumpkin, one trip to their vet that did nothing and no change. We asked if they can please take him back, honor their word and cure him make him better and we'd come back for him, as we grew to love him and wanted him. We just had unexpectedly already spent so much money in medicine, supplies and anything possible to make him better and felt this never should have happened had they told the truth. We were brutally told off, accused of abandoning him when that's not what we said! We said they told us in the beginning he was "healthy and cleared to go" and knew he was sick and still gave him to us. We just asked after the HIGH adoption fee ($350), and all we had spent in a month trying to get him well that the least they could do is hold on to him get him proper treatment and call us and we'll come back for him! Many nasty emails later (will post them if anyone wants to see), we basically had to give him back. They even told us that instead of letting us have him back once he's all better, they'll be giving him to another family crushing my sons heart. These people have no compassion no feelings and are just cruel. I found out from numerous others that they've had similar experiences and most reviews here are fake. Please look elsewhere to adopt a cat, dog, puppy or kitten please. These people don't care about you and they certainly don't care about their animals. I will be looking into reporting them.
