Description Animal Haven is a nonprofit organization that finds homes for abandoned cats and dogs throughout the Tri-State area, and provides behavior intervention when needed to improve chances of adoption. Founded in 1967, we operate an animal shelter in Manhattan. We also provide programs that enhance the bond between animals and people.

Quality Animal Rescue in NYC. But I don't like adoption process. Animals in this case dogs had to be screened online before you were given a chance to see them (assuming they were in the building and not at a foster home). -1 star. Second was pricing. Their young puppy cost was highest of rescues ( Note cost DOES include fixing and 1st years shots and ID chip. )
Volunteered here today and I have to say it was an amazing experience. These people care about animals and are extremely good at taking care of them. John Stewart got his dog here and if you are looking to adopt, give them a try.
We went to Animal Haven twice to meet some pups! Both times were really smooth experiences. Understandably, you may have to wait a little bit to meet the dogs, but both times, we were there for less than an hour. Both times, the staff at the front desk were extremely helpful and transparent - I only caught the name of one of the staff who helped us, May, but both times, we were guided on what to expect with the different dogs we met. When we were interviewed, May was extremely thorough in explaining the adoption process and the kind of care we should expect. All the volunteers were also really nice and made sure to ask us to either wear gloves or hand sanitize between visits with each dog we met. The whole place was kept really clean and seemed very organized and well-run. I haven't yet adopted a dog from here (timing hasn't yet worked out), so I'm sure I'll be back to complete my review once I do, but I felt inclined to write about my great experiences so far! *Edit: We got our dream pup! 2 months ago, we met a 3 month old puppy named Neo. We went back a day later to apply for him but we were too late, he got scooped before we could get him! About 10 days later, he was returned, but we were traveling. With a bit of back and forth communication, our contact at AH, May, helped us successfully adopt Neo about a month later. He's the best addition to our family. ❤️ Thank you, Animal Haven!!
Best animal shelter around for dogs and cats. A no kill shelter that treasures every guest. They are truly a blessing to our furry friends. Very professional and thorough screening for potential adoptions are unparalleled. They really care about every pet and find the right owner to match them. They are angels on earth.
I really thought I was going to have a great experience due to many previous good reviews. At first I was happy when I came in to see the dogs and they seemed promising. I was ready to adopt one of there dogs but after answering all there questions they said they will get back to me. That same dog got adopted a week and a half later and I’m still waiting for them to get back to me. I tried to clarify with them what went wrong but they stopped emailing me back and they don’t pick up calls. I was able to adopt a dog at another shelter with ease. I don’t know why this one made it so difficult and why they didn’t want to respond.
It’s very saddening for me to read some of the horrible experiences you all have had with Animal Haven…..My experience was top tier. One thing we must understand is that (AH) is a RESCUE not a kill shelter, that’s a big difference. I have adopted from kill shelters and you walk in and out the same day with your pet with very little information and no food, no toys, no integration plan. Animal Haven gives you the tools to be successful. This is NYC and like all our large cities people use pets for sport and don’t make them family and animal haven is not having that and I don’t blame them…..Ok I’m done preaching to y’all but really come on there is an application and if you qualify you get a pet if you don’t go to a kill shelter and adopt, there are animals that need your help there as well. I just adopted a beautiful puppy from them today and the staff was nice and welcoming. From emails to phone calls to in person visits. The process was fair conversations about bringing my puppy and 3 year old cat together was amazing. I am overall pleased with the process. I agreed with there policies even before I knew it. Prong, shock, choker collars are simply inhumane and just evil. They give us some food, toys, a leash and collar. My puppy had a fresh bath I paid the fee and we went home so he can meet his human and fur family. Special Thanks to Kate & Rose y’all made this process an enjoyable one.
