Description Arizona Heartfelt Hounds joins Sol Dog Lodge and Training Center under the umbrella of AGR Foundation! We are a non-profit, all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) corporation committed to the belief that every sighthound deserves a loving, permanent, and responsible home. We do not place our hounds on a first come first served basis; but rather, we make an educated and conscientious attempt in matching the right dog with the right home. Most of our hounds are placed as pets but occasionally a special hound comes in to our family that is identified as a future service dog and enters our Hearts At Ease program in collaboration with Sol Dog Lodge and Training Center!

This organization is wonderful. They are very experienced and they KNOW greyhounds. I was having behavioral issues with our greyhound that was NOT adopted from them and they gave me the advice I could not find from any veterinarian. There is a shortage of greyhounds so perhaps people are angry because their applications are not being processed. I understand this because we were rejected by several organizations or our application was ignored because we didn't live in Tucson.

Arizona Greyhound Rescue (AGR) is a wonderful community of dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to rescue greyhounds from abusive race tracks and other situations in which dogs can no longer remain in their homes. Incoming dogs are treated with medical care, kindness, and compassion. Every effort is made to ensure the dogs are placed in homes that are appropriate for each individual dog, thereby increasing the likelihood of a successful permanent placement. We could not be more delighted with the support we received in adopting and fostering our dogs.

A number of years ago, I wanted to get involved in participating in giving retired racing greyhounds a forever home. After extensive research on the breed, speaking to a number of owners with greyhound rescues and finding a vet that specialized in greyhounds I decided to take the next step and find a rescue in Arizona I could work with. Although I live in the Phoenix area I settled on Arizona Greyhound Rescue in Tucson for a number of reasons: their longevity, expertise and professionalism, as well as a very informative and up to date website. I also like the fact they partnered with a number of other agencies to expand their mission. Since that time, I have adopted 6 greyhounds from them, become a volunteer, and a donor. I appreciate the fact they are extremely selective in the placements, in order to provide the best possible outcome for both the humans and greyhounds. I definitely agree in their philosophy "Every greyhound deserves a forever home, but not every home is appropriate for a greyhound." I highly recommend AGR if you are looking for a greyhound in your future, be prepared for "adoption process" it's worth the time and effort all around.

I have been working with the Arizona Greyhound Rescue since 2009, and I can tell you these people are lovely, wonderful people whose soul purpose is to do right by our beloved hounds. I adopted a saluki from them, and the process was thorough, but not invasive. They just want to make sure it’s the right home for their dogs, which I appreciate completely. I will always support Arizona Greyhound Rescue and it’s mission!

Arizona Greyhound Rescue helps not only greyhounds but lots of other sighthounds and sighthound-mixes find their forever home. They also run a program to help match & train some of these dogs to be service dogs for Veterans. AGR is a fantastic organization that matches dogs & potential adopters in a thoughtful, caring manner, with the dogs long term best interest at the forefront of the process.

Do not feel sorry for the dogs from AGR. They are well taken care of by their fosters and hopefully by their forever homes. I have fostered 5 hounds and adopted one. There is paperwork and a home visit required. I respect and agree with the decisions they make. They are very knowledgeable and caring volunteers. I hope the people upset with AGR find a pet from a rescue. Rescues are the best❤️
