I adopted a dog from here almost 2 years ago, and we have been best friends since day one! The staff there was extremely helpful and transparent about Beau’s (new name) conditions, and I was able to foster him while they took care of his veterinary needs. They sent me home with detailed treatment sheets for me to follow while administering Beau’s at-home care. As a nurse myself, I appreciate the thoroughness of this process as it ensures the dogs will be adequately cared for, and gives me the peace of mind and reassurance I need as a pet parent. After I officially adopted him, I received a free bag of dog food, and dog-mom welcome kit, a small thank you token from the shelter, as well as a voucher to take Beau to his first official vet appointment for free. One of the things I most enjoyed is that I was able to play with him in the room before fostering, as well as how detailed the vet team was when discussing how to care for him and administer his medications at home. After a procedure, one of the vet techs provided me with a blanket to put in the back of my car so the seats would not be ruined in case he became car sick when I was transporting him back to my home. This meant so much to me, and showed the staff care for both the owner and the dog! Beau is such an integral part of my life, and I am so appreciative of the staff here at Irving Animal Campus for making giving me my lifelong companion!
I adopted a cat from this shelter during their Clear The Shelter event at the beginning of September. I’m actually rewriting this review after having him for a month to talk about my experience after having passed the highs of having a new cat. The first thing I want to address is that I was either lied to, or the people working the event actually had no idea what they were talking about. Pet health is very important to me, and upon adoption we (and by we I mean me and 6 other people standing at the counter) were given a general bill of health, talking about the sterilizations and to keep them out of water for two weeks, and telling us about how we could come back for a free shot they were due for. I pressed, asking whether or not he’d been FLV tested, had been dewormed etc. and the lady at the counter just kept saying yes yes yes, and when I asked about getting his medical info that day I was told they’d be mailed to me… Well. Upon revival of his medical info I noticed He was NOT checked for FLV. I also took him to the vet for a checkup and they did a stool sample, and despite his chart showing he was giving meds for internal parasites (meds that were NOT COMPLETED), he was full of them. It’s been nearly 30 days and we’re still struggling with the repercussions of them not completing his meds and checking before putting him up for adoption, which was EXTREMELY irresponsible on their part and could have negatively impacted the other cats I have at home if I hadn’t been diligent. That day was a mess; very disorganized. I had to fill out the same paperwork about 5 times and it took forever. I don’t think this shelter is prepared for that large of events, and IMO (for the cats at least) though the crates were clean, they need to pay more attention to the animals health and disclose information to potential adopters before they take the animal home. I love him, and I’d spend 30k on this guy for sure, but the fact that I’m having to cover the tracks of a shelter and doing what they should have done to ensure they were adopting out healthy animals is disheartening. I initially felt so elated but now I can see why everyone has negative opinions of this place.
A couple weeks ago my husband and I came to visit a local shelter. We didn’t intended to adopt, due to fact we both already owned two dogs. But, when we saw Thor and Layla we both immediately fell in love. We were told they were both found together on the streets, and have been in the shelter since August, knowing that they both shared a special bond we couldn’t separate them. So, we adopted them both and now they’re both happy with their new fur siblings. I would like to add the people that worked there were all friendly. We observed the handler who was taking care of the large dogs & who also showed us Thor & Layla, that she loves & cares for them. Thank you so much for taking such good care of our dogs. We are very blessed and our hearts our full now that they’re a part of our family.
Everyone was awesome. It was just busy, and it would have been nice if they had more staff. Luna "previously Dorothy" is the best pup anyone could ever ask for. I am very greatful.
Lex gave us so much helpful information and really helped us pick a cat for adoption! The facility itself is very clean and volunteers clearly care for all the animals. I highly recommend this shelter! I’ve visited so many in the DFW area this is definitely the cleanest and best cared for campus.
The facility was super clean and did not stink nor was it overwhelming. It was the opposite, it friendly, welcoming and bright. Volunteers are really available near the animals to answer questions and help in any way. It was a super positive experience taking my grandmother to get a new dog. We couldn't have asked for a better match! Bonni is doing great and adjusted to her new home and even made a new BFF with her new cousin dog. 💗 thank you. 😊
