Description Colony Cats is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose primary mission is to address cat overpopulation in central Ohio through public awareness and spay/neuter efforts. Since 2002, our organization has facilitated spay/neuter of nearly 19,000 cats and dogs, and placed more than 15,000 pets in homes. We have a cage-free cat adoption center and a network of foster homes for friendly, adoptable cats and kittens (as well as dogs/puppies we encounter while assisting cats) that have been rescued. We are also in partnership with area pet supply stores that help us by showcasing our adoptable cats at offsite locations throughout central Ohio.

I got my cat in May of last year. I applied, received an email letting me know I was approved, and then came in to pick a cat out. I've had cats my entire life and really prefer playing with them before picking one out. The cats roam around the shelter, which means you can interact with them easily and play with multiple at once. I really liked this. There are separate rooms for kittens. I went around the shelter and interacted with a bunch of different cats. They do have a few shelter type cages for cats that misbehave or have to be separated for some reason. The cat I chose was in one of those cages. After reading his little info card, I asked if I could get him out, and the volunteer I was with said yes. She also nicely explained why he was in there. He had been provoking the other cats and told me he needed to be the only cat in his new home. I picked him up and that little sucker practically hugged me. I was sold, especially after realizing he was also playful. His eyes were a little crusty, but I wasn't really focused on that. They gave me all of his microchip and medical information they had. I took him home. He was super social generally but was mad at us after we got home from work. Turned out he had separation anxiety. We made the decision to get him a kitten, and they were glued together from day 1. It also turned out that he was especially a stinker on occasion because he has asthma. After that was resolved, he stopped lashing out. The crusty eyes turned out to be an allergy issue. Overall a lovely experience and process, and they gave us the info they had. It just bothers me that they told us he needed to be the only cat when he very much needed a playtime buddy for behavioral reasons.
2 years ago I adopted Buddy, formerly known as BooBooBear, the best cat ever from here! He’s so sweet, kind, loving, playful, funny. He takes to new environments so well. Everyone who meets him loves him instantly. Like his name, he is the best buddy ☺️
The amount of time this organization and its volunteers spend rescuing cats and dogs is totally amazing to me. The care and compassion for the animals is 2nd to none, they truly love the animals and put them first. It is incredibly difficult to raise the funds and find volunteers willing to day after day keep a rescue like this going and Mona and her crew are true angels to this animals. Looking for a place to volunteer or a great charity to donate to Colony Cats appreciates the help!
I love this place. If you just want to pop in and pet cats for therapy go for it. But it will be hard not to take one home! There cats are literally everywhere so be careful going in the door and walking around. It smells a little bit in there because of what it is but they do a good job keeping things clean considering! I also brought a cat home from here and their adoption process is very comprehensive and fair priced.
I adopted a wonderful cat, Kasper (now Simon) from the Kitty Bubble Cafe through Colony Cats less than three weeks ago, and he’s such a delight. He fit in with my other pets almost immediately, and I think the cage-free environment certainly contributed to his socialization and easy transition into his permanent home. I would recommend adopting through Colony Cats to anyone!
Beyond disappointed in their policies. We walked in on Saturday 11/30/24 looking for a kitten and we found Deanna. We submitted an application that same day. We had been in touch with a staff member for only a day and while we were actively messaging with paper work about our other cats. We were told 2 hours ago (12/01/24) she had been adopted. I'm extremely disappointed with staff not informing us sooner. We had been in touch all day today and had been sending documentation about our other cats without being told she had been adopted. We're absolutely devastated. Hope you have a wonderful and safe life, Deanna.
