Bummed out, found a kitten on a busy street. They won’t take. Said they are considering “ free roaming” and if I have to, put it back on that street. Sad.

No personal interactions with the Turlock animal shelter. Everything is done on the internet. Looking for my lost dog Clyde. He has been missing for 3 months.

To all the naysayers who are complaining about this shelter. Try walking in their shoes where on a daily basis, they deal with abandoned dogs and trying to adopt, foster them out, find a rescue to take these discarded dogs in. Reality is that people are cruel and discard their pets which is where shelters step in and unfortunately, they are understaffed and underpaid. Laws need to be enacted for all dogs to be spayed/neutered by 1 year unless they are a registered working dog, ie: SAR, Law Enforcement or Military. Laws need to be passed where only licensed and registered breeders are allowed to breed dogs and if the law is broken, severe penalties are imposed on lawbreakers. I have evaluated at shelters in Stanislaus and Merced County, having found Turlock Animal Services to be the most competent and humane of them all.

Very friendly staff. Make sure to have your pet spay or neutered. Your city license fee will be dramatically increased if not.

I was very saddened to find that they do not help cats. I was told to put the animal back where I found it and let it fend for itself. I found it in a tree with its neck stuck behind a branch unable to free itself! The officer stationed at the animal services was rather passive aggressive. I'm not a criminal! I was looking for help for an innocent animal!

My roommate and I found an abandoned, alone kitten in our yard. We nursed it for about 2 days until the shelters opened. We took it to this shelter, called ahead to see if they would take it. Once my roommate got there with the kitten, they took it. She offered and donated the formula we bought. They said they wouldn't need it because the kitten was going to be euthanized. My roommate understandably asked to have the kitten and the formula back. They said no, being as it wasn't spayed/neutered, it can't leave the premises. This kitten was barely a week old, it still had the umbilical cord attached. Of course it wasn't fixed. Had they been upfront about what was going to happen, had they informed my roommate when she called, had their website had information, my roommate would never had taken the kitten there. They had no remorse, no empathy for what they were doing. My roommate is understandably heart broken. Do not take your animals/pets to this facility. They are heartless. 0/5 stars.
