Was interested in adopting a dog that I had rescued, came multiple times to visit dog while it was still pending for release. Showed much interest in adopting it. Came to shelter at 9am, waited for gates to open at 9:30. Had my sister planning to arrive at 1pm to fill out paperwork for adoption. Was told they wouldn't even hold the dog for us. Came back at 11:30am and they had already given dog away to someone else. These people have no heart or care for the community or the animals clearly. They'd prefer to remain stiff about rules and have absolutely no empathy for others situation. Clearly we were interested and made huge amounts of effort to get this dog when it was released but they'd prefer to be aholes and just adopt to some random person that saw their website post. Thanks for ruing our Christmas with your unhelpful attitude.
Bummed out, found a kitten on a busy street. They won’t take. Said they are considering “ free roaming” and if I have to, put it back on that street. Sad.
No personal interactions with the Turlock animal shelter. Everything is done on the internet. Looking for my lost dog Clyde. He has been missing for 3 months.
To all the naysayers who are complaining about this shelter. Try walking in their shoes where on a daily basis, they deal with abandoned dogs and trying to adopt, foster them out, find a rescue to take these discarded dogs in. Reality is that people are cruel and discard their pets which is where shelters step in and unfortunately, they are understaffed and underpaid. Laws need to be enacted for all dogs to be spayed/neutered by 1 year unless they are a registered working dog, ie: SAR, Law Enforcement or Military. Laws need to be passed where only licensed and registered breeders are allowed to breed dogs and if the law is broken, severe penalties are imposed on lawbreakers. I have evaluated at shelters in Stanislaus and Merced County, having found Turlock Animal Services to be the most competent and humane of them all.
I was very saddened to find that they do not help cats. I was told to put the animal back where I found it and let it fend for itself. I found it in a tree with its neck stuck behind a branch unable to free itself! The officer stationed at the animal services was rather passive aggressive. I'm not a criminal! I was looking for help for an innocent animal!
Very friendly staff. Make sure to have your pet spay or neutered. Your city license fee will be dramatically increased if not.
