When I had my cockatoo this rescue was so helpful of just guiding me to help him live his best life. They answered all my calls and questions. It was a few years ago when I had Yelly Bird, but see the ugly reviews and felt I needed to tell my experience. They were willing to help me rehab him when my dad was killed and that meant the world to me.
A little over a year ago I started volunteering at BOF in preparation to eventually adopt. I see the love for these beautiful birds by this rescue. They took me into the flock and taught me so much. I can attest and the comments that have been left are wrong. What I’ve seen is people with no bird experience coming and not liking the vetting it takes for adoption, the home inspections and the contracts, these all are an important parts of ensuring these beautiful birds find the perfect home. I can also attest to bonding visits, I had 1:1 time with the bird but the foster mom to answer any questions I had. Dorothy called and texted and checked on us after the adoption. I maintain this relationship and love this group. Looks like the people that are disgruntled didn’t get approved for adoption based on circumstances they are not sharing. This group is based on love, not just for the birds but also for its human flock ♥️
I have never seen a crew work sooo hard to keep all these amazing rescue parrots happy and healthy. It upsets me that some people have extra time on their hands to post negative comments in such great detail of untrue information. I have been a a part of birds of a feather for quite some time and the distance the director and her amazing crew will do at a drop of a dime to help a parrot in need for medical care ,to help any new parrots parents with proper information to keep their own flock happy is such a beautiful thing. Thank u Birds of a Feather crew for the amazing, Hard work u do for this community and everyone involved.
I’ve been volunteering with Birds of a Feather for several years, and I am so impressed with the work that they are doing for the animals and people in our state. The birds that come through their doors get a second chance at finding their forever homes and receive excellent medical care and so much love in the process. I really respect that the rescue dedicates so much time and effort to screen and educate potential adopters and do everything they can to break the cycle of birds being rehomed.
Rescues are supposed to work together for the good of the animals. I gave this woman many of the supplies she needed when she got started and my advice, my time to get her up and running, and at one point I begged to groom her birds for her. I even gave her cash and bags of proper parrot food as the birds were eating mostly all seed. I got her in touch with folks who would help her fundraise. From day one, what this women wanted was to take from me, and I fell for it. I mourn it. I get calls all of the time describing a “very rude” woman who charged them a fee and did not give them even a little one on one time. This is appalling because parrots need quiet one on one time to be able to choose a person of their liking and that’s difficult with 40 or 50 people crammed in a residence. I feel very sorry for my community and I wish I could do more than give you back your money, many of you are wonderfully deserving of adopting a rescue parrot. I have personal concerns for the animals in the home as I had watched her grab a bird and scream at it or hit one of many dogs, who were all co-mingling loose together. I am so sad for all of this and hope things will get better.
Rude people from the kids to the adults, amazing how they are running a "business"
