The newer facility is great. My husband and I just adopted a kitten from there last weekend. The staff was nice and super helpful.

My dog went and got spayed here and they killed all of her puppies without us, even knowing and the doctor we took my dog too, said she had all the signs of pregnancy, but the humane society went into her in sprained her and didn’t tell none of us she’s pregnant or anything that’s messed up and now my dogs plays with toys thinking they are her puppies she won’t let no other dog come near her with those toys in her possession She’s really sad and upset about it. This is not right. I will show you the papers where she go to ours family vet and they said y’all missed pronounced her not pregnant yall didn’t check when I also told y’all she might be pregnant but now yall are covering up surgeries with the lies and I know my dog was pregnant because she was pregnant before and she has never done this unless she was pregnant I want the surgeons name that spayed her

AAHS is the best shelter in or around Athens. The facility is pristine and clean, the staff are attentive and professional, and the animals are well-cared for. The clinic vets and support staff are deeply knowledgeable, kind, and efficient. I've been to the municipal shelters in Clarke County - from the staff's attitude to cleanliness, it's deplorable. AAHS is top-notch - all shelters should strive to such high standards.

They had a free clinic, my 11 week old Cane Corso got her microchip, and a free spay appointment from them. They were also giving away free dog and cat food. They do alot to help out the community.

Had my mastiff neutered on 08/08. We have been to the vet every day since. Our vet said it's standard to do a scrotal ablation on older and/or larger dogs. Now he's going in for a $2000 surgery to correct this. Adopt your pets here. Get their surgery done somewhere else.

I love this place. I adopted my cat Ozzy from here back in 2022 and come here often to hang out with the animals. The staff is always so helpful and allows me to play with any animal I'd like. It's a wonderful mood booster when I'm feeling down. I wish I could adopt all of them!
