A wonderful shelter run by wonderful people! I adopted Tux the pigeon from the Refuge and he was so well taken care of and loved there, I almost felt bad taking him home with me! They make sure you know what you're getting yourself into before you can adopt, which I respect a great deal. Rich and Karen care deeply for all of their animals and give every single one nothing but the best.
A Refuge for Saving the Wildlife, Inc. is a nonprofit organization run by Richard and Karen Weiner. It is a no kill parrot rescue and rehabilitation center. They educate and try to find forever homes for the many parrots that they take in. Most of these parrots were dearly loved by their owners but due to illness or death they were placed into their organization. I visited here last week and these 2 people give their all in order to keep the birds active and healthy until they can find their forever homes. And for those who succumb to illnesses are never forgotten. They take them to the vet to be cremated and are placed in an urn because that is the kind of people they are. They also have a website where you can learn more about the birds and also to volunteer or donate at rescuethebirds.org
My parrot died suddenly about a month ago. He was a citron cockatoo who was rescued from an abusive environment. I worked with him for six years and he passed away with no warning from a genetic disorder. I found out after my vet did an autopsy. My other bird a blue faced Amazon began to struggle. He was a mirror to the other parrot they went everywhere together they groomed each other. They had a great relationship, even though they came from two different backgrounds with two different families. Immediately I wanted to try to find a friend that I would eventually acclimate into the environment. I found this company online and I called and spoke to Rich the owner. He seemed very nice was professional, and really cared about what he was doing. I explain my situation and was instructed to fill out an online application which I did eventually. I called multiple times, and I got no response whatsoever not even a decline from whoever makes the decisions on who adopts and who does not. With as nice as the owner seemed, I was disappointed and surprised that that was how they handled an interested family. My birds get the best food they have an entire bedroom that’s their own , they can fly if they wish. I have a gel heater set at 85°. I have a humidifier said it 80% humidity to give it a jungle fill and I had a Bose stereo sound system playing jungle sounds for them. And yet even though they knew that, I never even got a single professional response. the website says to adopt which I tried to do but if they’re going to treat a potential buyer like me that way I can’t imagine what they will do it as someone who may be never had a bird before.
I have never been so racially profiled over the phone as bad as I was with this company. They are rude! Furthermore, they have even called my phone back just to be indignant towards me after I have stated that I would call someone else. Ruined my entire morning!!
