Description The Bond Between is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on the bond between humans and animals. We were founded in 2009 as Secondhand Hounds. Since then, we have rescued over 29,000 dogs and cats with the help of thousands of fosters, volunteers, and supporters in our community. Our organization has grown from a rescue to a first-in-its-class animal wellbeing organization... now The Bond Between! We continue to provide safe shelter, proper veterinary care, and daily necessities for animals while working hard to help them build a bond with humans. We also focus on supporting the bonds that already exist between people and pets with our pet food shelf, respite foster care program, and focus on social services.

I would give them a million stars if I could! I needed to place my kitty in respite care for a couple of weeks due to a bad situation that I was in. They worked hard to find someone to foster him, and I'm so grateful to them. He'll also be neutered and get all of his shots while he's in respite care. Thank you so much for everything you do. This is my lover boy Riley.
Wonderful non-profit helping dogs and cats from varied backgrounds find forever homes. Most dogs are in foster homes which gives potential families the chance to find their pet's temperament, ability to be around children, other pets, and what type of home would be best for the pet. From puppies to seniors and special needs pets, you'll find what works best for your home. Potential families are vetted for suitability, some go home the same day at adoption events. Dogs and cats are in foster homes, so you'll have a good idea beforehand of your potential new family member's temperament, reaction and ability to live with existing cats and dogs, or need to be a solo pet. What's best for their dogs and cats is foremost and right for all involved.
FIRST EDIT: I want to correct some errors in the team's response below. First this dog does not have a bite history. Never once has he ever bitten a person or an animal and we would never lie about this. We take the safety of others, and the dog, seriously. Second, we adopted our cat 10 years ago so she is anything but new to us. She's also a three legged cat which has contributed to some of the issues. This information was in our application for the dog as well as in every communication with the team since adoption regarding both animals' health and safety. We are devastated to be losing our family member who we love and have cared deeply for and it hurts to see that he was denied a chance to return to Bond Between due to poor record keeping. I have sent another email to your team where I would be happy to discuss further if you wish. SECOND EDIT: They have ignored any attempts to reach out to discuss the incorrect information they have and have refused to help this sweet dog. Please consider supporting another rescue. We recommend the animal humane society where we have gotten all of our pets in the past and who were the ones that actually helped our dog. ORIGINAL: They advertise as a no kill shelter but that is untrue. They have irresponsible adoption practices that lead to animal deaths, but they don't have to advertise those since they don't physically give the injection themselves. They take more than 50% of their dogs from the south, obviously don't do thorough behavioral screenings, and lie on their postings about the animals. You can end up with a completely different pet than was described, you can pay thousands of dollars on training and be in contact with the "rescue" the entire time, letting them know the issues (unsafe with resident cat and young children) and your concern that you may need to surrender despite being absolutely in love with your new family member. They will pretend to support you until you have to make the official, devastating decision to surrender, and then they will refuse to help find a new home for your pet. They told us it was because they didn't have foster homes available, so we offered to foster. We called them and emailed them multiple times saying we were more than happy to foster the pet but have heard nothing back over the last 2 weeks. We even had the trainer they partner with advocate for our pet because she's worked with him and believes he just needs a different environment to thrive, but they gave them the same excuse that they don't have enough room. Again, even though we've offered to foster and provide them with the room. They are not trying to help animals in need in Minnesota, nor are they trying to find appropriate homes for them. They are literally taking dogs from the south and selling them as fast as they can for $600. Don't support this team. Support the animal humane society, a group that is actually helping animals, and will take in the less "desirable" cases because they want to give every animal a fair chance. They don't need to discard the tougher pets because they need to sell as many dogs as possible. Our sweet bubs is alive because of the animal humane society but may have been dead due to the bond between.
I’ve been fostering for this organization for the last 12 years. it’s a wonderful organization with fabulous people who really care about the animals and the people involved. I fostered over three dozen animals for this organization and it’s always rewarding.
If you’re thinking about adopting an animal, please go through this organization! They are amazing. The whole adoption process was smooth and Nicole (the foster of my puppy) was incredible. I’m so happy with my pup!:) thank you The Bond Between!
Fantastic organization! We have two dogs from Secondhand hounds and they are the absolute best. Adoption is so important; if you don't need a specific breed for a specific reason, definitely consider adopting! We also foster and love it! The foster coordinators are great to work with and it's very rewarding to see your foster animals go to their forever homes.
