I adopted both Ham and Luna (formerly Marci) from the Animal Welfare Department within a few months of each other and absolutely adore them. Staff were very kind and helpful. The process was smooth and quick. I went in to meet with both of them, and went right home with them. Staff made sure to explain everything about owning a puppy to make sure Ham was going to the right home. Volunteers were very helpful in making sure I had play time with Luna before choosing her. Folks, if you are looking for a pet, please consider adopting. Those pets need homes and will absolutely love you for providing them with it.
As far as the public facing side, great. The staff were very helpful with our having to bring in a stray momma cat and two of her kittens. Best news is they all got adopted in eight days.
My son found an abandoned cat at the storage facility where he works. I called 311 and was told by the city services operator that I had to have an appointment to drop off a stray at the intake shelter. You must be a resident of Albuquerque to drop off an animal at one of the 2 shelters. I chose the NE shelter. My appointment was for 4 hours later the Saturday we found the cat. I had my own cat carrier to hold the cat. The intake officer was so nice. He asked for my ID and I filled out a short form. He took the cat to check for microchip but there was none. He said the cat will go up on the website as an adoptable cat on the 19th. Because the cat is so friendly, young, and pretty, the officer thinks the cat will be adopted the same or next day. He said, "thanks for bringing this sweet cat in." This cat deserves a good home. He was so hungry and I gave him some cat food before going to the intake shelter.
Came here to reclaim my dog, the employee at the front desk in the shelter area was very rude to my dad who didn’t understand his rudeness. Talked to me for the easy questions and quickly switched to my dad for the hard questions obviously knowing he can’t speak or understand much English. We had every bit of proof for the dog but it seemed like he couldn’t believe us. When I took my dog home I had found that they had cut her whiskers off. Hope to never have to come back to this place, my dad didn’t deserve to be treated like this.
Very pleasantly surprised I brought him eight puppies they were all gone within 5 days thank you for your support appreciate your time and effort
Update: I doubt anyone cares, but I've had Clayton for over a year now, and he's doing great! He has major orange cat energy, but we still love him! I found my little Clayton (previously known as Paul) here and was so happy with the kind staff who informed me that he had an upper respiratory infection and even provided me medication for him with instructions on how to give it to him. But it was unfortunate to find out he had earmites when we brought him home, but after a quick trip to the pet store for simple medication, he was right as rain. Something I wish the shelter would have caught but it seemed the mites just started cultivating in his ear which makes me think maybe the other cat he was with had them and gave them to him before we took him home. Compared to my animal shelter in my hometown, I was just happy they put thought and care into simple illnesses instead of putting them down as if they were an inconvenience. I've had him for a little over a month now and couldn't be happier to see him happy and healthy 🥰
