They helped with baby quail I had found. Very efficient, knowledgeable, and helpful, I really appreciated them.
When visiting the Rio Grande Nature Center, it can be easy to miss the Wildlife Rescue Center. On this day, they had an open house and several raptors out to see. They work hard to rehabilitate injured birds and animals for release back into the wild. When that's not possible, they try to incorporate them into their educational programming. The staff are friendly, informative, and clearly passionate about the animals in their care. They depend on donations, so give what you can.
Found a poor pigeon with a broken wing downtown next to piles of...well...human waste. I wasn't sure they'd take it as it's not endangered enough. I was wrong, they love to help pigeons, sparrows, any wild animal. They were very kind and sympathetic. Hope the lil guy (or gal) makes it, or can at least be humanely euthanized. Anything is better than dying of dehydration or starvation over days of pain or being stepped on where it was stuck.
Great staff, who immediately took a baby black chin hummingbird into their care. Gave us a referral number so we can check up on it in a few days.
Found an injured bird in my backyard. They took it in. Unfortunately it had to be euthanized.
I was able to to drop off an injured finch here and the lady at the front was quite knowledgeable and personable. She gave me a card with which I could call back and check on the health of the bird I brought in.
