I visit several times a month to see Kitty City and kitten corner as a coping skill for a child I work with. It does smell from the animals but that's part of it. I adopted a senior cat earlier this year and the diagnosis was way off. My cat is doing better now with the meds.
I’ll leave three stars because the work they do is admirable and I can only imagine how stressful and upsetting it is. I went in with my boyfriend to help get a cat care. Said cat was feral I believe or dumped. We hadn’t realized she was spayed or we would’ve released her. We have tried to get kittens and cats around our home care and a safe place to possibly find a forever home. There was a lady next door that passed away and the cat population went unchecked so now we moved in and are trying to get these cats/kittens care. We are aware we can only bring in 5 per week. The last time we went in the two women were just kind of rude towards us… the cats ear was not clipped we brought in indicating its feral and spayed/neutered or again we would’ve released. They stated they were going to contact the areas owner as we live in a modular park because this is getting ridiculous… I agree it is crazy this went unchecked and no one helped these animals. I have exhausted every option with rescues, shelters… I cannot foster them or provide care I have two pups and know some of these cats and kittens are sick and need immediate treatment. I just felt this could’ve been handled differently as they made us feel like we shouldn’t be bringing in anymore animals for help…
Muncie Animal Care & Services is a great resource for the community. Putting animals first and working so many hours! I truly appreciate the staff as they continue to work short-handed. Please consider adopting a shelter pet or fostering. Donations are accepted as well and much needed. I adopted my Baby Pork Rinds there over three years ago. Thank you for taking care of the animals in Muncie! I'm so glad I got my kitty!
My dog was killed by my neighbors dog on Sunday April 7th. I contacted non-emergency dispatch and they stated they would have an animal control “officer” get in contact with me. The individual contacted me and stated he could not come out today because they were closed. He then said they wouldn’t come out Monday either because of “the solar eclipse traffic.” So I had to wait until Tuesday to submit a bite report. He stated they would come out and talk with my neighbor and quarantine the dog. Well, that did not happen and the neighbors dog was right back in my yard a few days later. I again contacted animal control and informed them the dog was back. They said they would come out with a Deputy and get the dog. 3 hours went by and no one came. I then called the non-emergency number again and reported the situation. The dispatcher stated that animal control had never contacted them and that this was the first they were hearing of it. They then sent a deputy to my home along with animal control. The deputy took our information while animal control stood outside on the porch and never even came in to talk to us. The deputy was the same one that had responded to an incident in January where my neighbors dog also attacked one of our dogs on our property. He told us that the dog was supposed to quarantined in January as well but never was. Once the deputy exited, animal control came in and stated they would go and talk with the neighbors and quarantine the dog. As you can imagine, they still did not. I watched them sit at the end of my driveway for a minute, then pull out of my driveway and head back to town. These individuals are rude, lazy, and incompetent. Another failure by the city of Muncie.
Good hearts but terrible service. We adopted a dog from them a few months ago, and we gave her everything we could to train her, but she simply would not learn. Unfortunately she simply was not a good fit for our home, but we still loved her so much, and after many accidents and times she would not adhere to what we were saying. We invested a lot of time, money, and love into her and working with her. Unfortunately, we had to bring her back but we still wanted to find our perfect fit. They treated us like we abused her (which was simply NOT the case) and made is feel very unwelcome and were quite simply rude. And I want to say I have nothing but respect for these workers and admire what they do. But for a shelter that is at max capacity, they should be more understanding of situations and WORK with adopters to find their perfect fit. especially when they have good hearts.
Meet calie/Shea. She is older, like me. This is one of the better shelters. This is my second time adopting a cat from this shelter. The animals are very well taken care of. I always start by looking on pet finder and end up at my favorite shelter.
