Description The Humane Society of Wicomico County is dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk animals, and matching pets with their forever families while providing premier temporary care and shelter for the animals in our community. We are an open-admission shelter which means any lost, found, stray, injured, neglected, abandoned, or surrendered animal from our county in need of refuge will not be turned away. We work alongside Salisbury City Animal Control and Wicomico County Animal Control to provide temporary shelter and care to stray animals in our area. As a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, we rely on public support to operate. We also offer spay/neuter, euthanasia, and cremation services to the public.

Long story short, I went in with the plan of getting paperwork for fostering. I ended up leaving putting in an application for this girl. She is not what I was after and the timing could have been a bit better but she adopted me. The staff were very helpful during the whole process. She has definitely made the house her home and it has not even been a month. I am excited to see how much more she opens up.

They did a fantastic job with turning my pups life around. She was skinny, skin was so poor, rotten tooth. I was lost. Loved pups my entire life and thought I'd lose my Ole girl. Instead they helped us get her totally turned around. Weight on, skinned fixed, tooth fixed, and spayed!!! Thank you so much from all of mine to all of yours!!!

EDIT: I never said she was going to attack SOMEONE, I said someTHING. Here is exactly what I said: “That is not the stance of a dog that’s shutting down. That’s a dog trying to attack something. Ears forward and very tense body language, and literally choking herself to try and get to the thing she wants to attack.” So you still sit here being incredibly rude in your interaction with me and lying. My location has nothing to do with my experience in dog handling and your lies. After stumbling across their page on Facebook I was greeted with a rather disturbing sight. The dog named “Princess” who they have deceptively labeled as a “Pharaoh hound” is being used to guilt trip the public into adopting her by saying she is “shutting down”. When I pointed out that the behavior the dog is exhibiting is not what they are claiming I was met with defensiveness and gaslighting. They attempted to provide more “proof” the dog is not doing as I claimed and only furthered my claim as I can hear the dog wheezing because it’s choking itself pulling against her collar like I stated. They also claim she would “never hurt anything” but have stated that she can’t be near cats, and there have been comments stating her obsessive behavior in regards to cats on their page where she will chase and bark at cats. I have experience in working with animals, and yet they diminish that experience because I don’t work with them. They don’t know me and the things I have done, so clearly that means I know nothing in their eyes.

Kind people who care about the animals in their care. I adopted a cat & he started having issues in one eye a few days later. I think he caught a kitty cold from the stress of getting neutered and adjusting to his new home. I brought him back in, and they sent me home with eye drops. They also showed me how to give them. I appreciate that they were willing to help him post-adoption. He appreciates that his eye gunk is clearing up!

I recently adopted my furry friend Rusty from Wicomico Humane. They are angels in there, staff is very friendly and they do everything they can to care for the forgotten and broken animals in our area. The facility is at the end of a quiet road, there’s tons of space for walking the dogs and the entire place is clean and comfortable inside and out! If you want to come pet kitties or help out with the dog walking or other volunteer activities, you’re more than welcome! They do events and also have weekly time slots to come walk dogs. You can also prepay for an animals adoption and help in that way, and for a smaller helpful investment you can even rename the incoming animals for $25. A sweet way to honor your own senior pet, or a friend who can’t have them, but loves animals!

The work you all are doing her is amazing. I'm so happy that this is a resource for animals. My one issue occurred when the a member of staff was asking me questions about the kittens and mother cat I brought in which is very important and I understand that. That was all fine, what was not fine was her tone and attitude when asking why I didn't bring the rest in (the rest being about 30 WILD cats around a relatives home) please be mindfully that not everyone has the time or resources to be cat superman (as much as i wish i could be, I would LOVE to be cat superman). I am one person with one cat carrier and about an hour before I have to get back to my two jobs and being a full-time student. I know this job is very stressful, but please be more understanding of the people who bring animals in, I know a lot are probably idiots lol. Besides that instance, the humane society is a very important part of our community. And thank you for giving those beautiful kittens and mother a home.
