After I read that Peaceful Valley Donkey Sanctuary in Texas works with Fandango Sanctuary, I've wanted to visit this place. I contacted the owner, Iris, via the website to schedule a private tour. She was very accommodating with me, and we scheduled a visit this Saturday afternoon. The weather was perfect, sunny and dry, for the almost 4 hour drive (with pit stops) from north east Florida. We arrived around 3:30 p.m., and I called the sanctuary number from the side of their parked sanctuary vehicle (941) 468-0334 (also listed on the website) to let Iris know we had arrived. Before Iris met us at the front of the house, there was already a welcoming party of 2 farm dogs, Alma and Lottie, as well as a flock of various chickens. Lottie looks like she fell in love with us and walked with us almost the entire tour. Violet, the rescue pig, was also very curious and followed us, enjoying our carrot snacks along the way. There was a handsome guard goat that took a liking to us (but was not interested in snacks) and walked next to Iris and Lottie during the tour. We met pigs, cows, turkeys, chickens, an elderly wild boar, 2 horses, several donkeys / mules, mini horse?, and more chickens. We brought 2 bags of carrots with us, and an earlier guest left some apples that we gave to Violet the pig along with the assortment of chickens and turkeys. Admission is free. However, donations are accepted via PayPal on their site or cash when you visit. I donated online and also provided Iris with cash before we left. As a side note, there is a locked gate to enter the sanctuary, and Iris emailed the code to me prior to arriving. Prior to your trip, I recommend bringing a change of clothes, mud boots, and hand wipes. Remember to wear closed toe shoes, pants, and clothes that you don't mind getting dirty since it is a farm setting and there are farm animals who are very friendly / will rub their muddy faces on your legs. Violet the pig was definitely a big fan of my husband and loved all the carrots. Lastly, be careful when parking your car since there are chickens that are exploring the grounds. They are pretty smart, though, and will generally move out of the way when they hear a vehicle. We'll be back for another visit or to volunteer! Thanks, Iris, for an excellent tour, and we appreciate what you're doing for these fuzzy friends.
Fandango sanctuary was a wonderful experience!! All of the animals just wanted to be pet and loved which was amazing! Iris did such a great job at explaining the animals to us with a little bit of history on how the animals ended up at the sanctuary. Two thumbs up for Fandango sanctuary!! 👍👍💯
I loved my time at Fandango Sanctuary. It was the highlight of my trip. Helping out a little feels great and the owner was very pleasant. The animals are well loved and have a wonderful home there. I will support the farm with labor, but if I had the means, I would donate to this non-profit. Caring for animals with no return but love from them, takes a big heart and you can feel it here.
This farm is a local hidden gem! The animals are exceptionally nice and friendly. The owner is welcoming and courteous. I wish we had discovered it sooner, the whole family loved it!
Very nice place. The person who runs it really cares about animals and she is very pleasant
Great place to support. A sanctuary where horses can live out their life in Peace with love and attention. A donkey foster/adoption place with BLM donkeys from Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue. Few farm animals like a pig and some chickens all well cared for and happy all rescues and all living the good life at the Sanctuary.
