After waiting for a long time hopefully my dog will recover and understand the situation, I can share now: Drake Center should be the last vet care to go to. About 2 years ago, I checked in my healthy dog for onboarding for a week, I checked out a disabled dog, until now no improvement. I believe they mishandled him and snapped his cervical disc, nerve damage, can barely walk. They refused to take responsibility and care for him, they did investigate and basic checks, then when it was clear he needs MRI and surgery they dropped the ball, not even responding, or providing his records. Accidents happen, and we should own our mistakes and be responsible, they did not. After going through a lot, I can confirm that and be fair. I have all the documentation.
I love the Drake Center. They can get my dog in quickly if I need them to. They are great at communicating and I think they are very fair in what they charge. I have gone to a vet in the past that did unnecessary tests and I felt like I Paid so much more than I had to but at the Drake Center, they are upfront and extremely reasonable. My dog loves both of the vets that she has seen there.
Dr. Heather Kovacevich Has been our dog’s primary vet since he was a puppy. Typical French bulldog breed issues has led us on a journey of visits, procedures and tests. Two significant health concerns have been found by Dr. K. One resulted in nares surgery (BOAS) performed by Dr. Pike of (Vet Specialty Hospital in Sorrento Valley). The other issues have been carefully reviewed with us. Dr. l has also been very honest and thorough with her findings. She always errs on the conservative side when it comes to our dog. Drake Center is very well respected in the community. We have taken our dog to two of the most seasoned surgeons in SoCal for 2nd opinions. Both have always agreed with Dr. Kovacevich. One derm issue (paw sores, skin issues) resulted in an allergy test administered by a Derm at Vet Specialty. Dr. Kovacevich exhausted her efforts before referring us to the derm. Fast forward to CT scan (due to a mass growth in ear), lots of other “stuff” was found. We had the CT scan done at Vet Imaging Center SD in Kearny Mesa. Dr. Kovacevich reviewed the findings and agreed a more conservative approach should be taken to address the mass. We were prepared to schedule a major surgery. The Drake Center is reasonable considering the level of care we receive at every visit. They also have sat and sun non-emergency hours. The entire staff is very nice and professional.
Sooo nice. The people here were extraordinarily kind and listened well. The way they treated my kitty was gentle and sweet. Some vets are rough and impatient. . Animals deserve absolute kindness and loving care. The staff seems to get that. Dr Leslie was just fabulous. I felt I could trust her.
My dog Sam and I are so grateful to have found Drake Vet Care. I'm very picky on vets and have been through about 5 in my dog-owning life so far. And the team at Drake are outstanding. Specifically, our latest member of the family, Sam, is a bit picky on people. Loves other dogs but not so much people. We had him trained at sleep-away dog training with Canine Julz. 4 weeks. So it is a big deal when a vet can deal with a dog like that. And Kristi Leslie has been such a one. Patient, caring, thoughtful and really good at veterinary work. Our latest trip there was when I clipped his toe nail so short that it bled inconsolably ;) Katie Tiglio patched him up and did not make me feel bad about having done that to him. Sigh. So thank you so much for being in this community Drake Veterinary Team.
I was very impressed with Dr. Tiglio, for several reasons. First, she was well versed on the canine respiratory disease that has been making the rounds over the past several months. Second, she didn't try to convince me to pay for unnecessary tests (this is extremely rare, trust me). Third, she quickly assessed the situation with my dog, came up with a treatment plan, and put my mind at ease. Highly recommend.
