I adopted 2 cats at Pet Smart 7 years ago. CINDY was the woman I dealt with. 3 weeks ago we lost one of our beloved cats to lymphoma. I went out of my way to contact CINDY to inquire about adopting another cat, only because my surviving cat is definitely missing her companion. To say the two of them “tolerated” one another would be the farthest thing from the truth, these cats BONDED like nothing I’ve ever seen, and I’ve had cats all of my life. Fast forward when I spoke to CINDY she said sounds like ZsaZsa (my little surviving cat) needs a companion. With that being said she went on to tell me she has a kitten she thought would be a great fit. She sent me pictures I was very interested. CINDY arranged a meet & greet on July 25, 2024 to go to her home to meet the kitten. My husband and I arrived and CINDY greeted us at the door and looked at me a little surprised because I was using a walker, she looked down at it an said “oh my the cats are going to be afraid of that. Which I thought was absurd since I didn’t plan to chase them around with it so was immediately confused. CINDY brought the kitten out to meet us and she was your typical kitten, chasing, climbing, running, a very sweet kitten. Well as CINDY started her interrogation with me about care, feeding, liter, toys she occasionally threw in “so, how what happened to your foot” or “do you use that (walker) in your home all the time”? I started getting a little uncomfortable but continued to listen to what CINDY had to say. Anyway we made a plan to pick up the cat today (Sunday July 29) from her home. We left and my husband and I went to Pet Supermarket and bought new toys, a litter CINDY recommended, food she recommended and so on. Well Saturday morning I get a text from CINDY saying that with a heavy heart she had to tell me the adoption was off, stating that she tripped over the kitten and sent her flying into the air. I’m thinking the kitten was injured but she said no no we’re both fine, but if anything happened to her if I let you adopt her I’d never forgive myself. I said i’m sorry? But YOU tripped over her and sent her flying not me? This makes no sense. Then it dawned on me, the walker! I said CINDY this is about me using a walker (which is temporary by the way, until I build strength up in my leg) I said this in my opinion is discrimination! You’re saying I can’t take care for a.cat because I have a walker! She said in her own words “ well the walker concerns me but I wouldn’t call it discrimination. Well I do call it discrimination and maybe I’m completely wrong but I filed a complaint with the ADA so we’ll let them decide. Just in case your thinking of adopting from Adoot A Stray think twice because CINDY has no problem yanking the rug out from under you and being very, very, nasty and mean spirited. She will also make you feel like everything you do for your pets us wrong and only she knows how to care for a cat. Just because she houses over 30 cats still doesn’t make her right. She claims she’s been doing this a long time, well so have I, I’ve had a cat/cats since I was 18 years old when I got my first place on my own, I’m now 69 so I think I know what I’m doing. All my cats other than Dino, my cat that just passed, were 15 or older. It doesn’t go by how many you have in your home it goes by how you care for them. I’ve rambled enough, just think twice before dealing with this woman. She dealt me quite a blow.
Very disappointing! My wife and I went into PetSmart to buy food for our adopted cat and dog and came across Adopt-A-Stray. We fell in love with a kitten and filled out the application. We were contacted by Cindy and asked various questions about feeding, different types of litter, where I lived, etc... the question made me feel a little uncomfortable After the conversation, we were told that they will contact us within 48hrs. They asked us what type of litter I was planning on using and type of food. Cindy and her staff probably had a problem with the choices of food and litter we chose for our adopted cat. Our cat is very healthy and they are well aware because we even provided medical records for the dog and cat that we currenlty own, we even have a health plan for both pets. MY cat and dog are well trained. I believe we were denied because till this day no one has contacted us. My wife is a animal lover an supporter, they wasted a good opportunity and a home, I believe that Cindy felt entitled to tell us how we should care for our animals. They make it so difficult to adopt it makes feels like they really a fake and do not want to give this animals a precious home. We will adopt from another place. Everyone its sad to say but go some where else not Adopt-A-Stray / Pets Smart.
I adopted 3 of my cats from Adopt-A-Stray. They’re the best. Love that the cats come first for this organization. They know their cats so well you can tell them the temperament of cat you want, and they match you with the perfect kitty. For the people giving scathing reviews, this organization has been around over 20 years with Cindy at the helm. I volunteered there when it was getting off the ground and can attest to the high standards they have for adopters. Good for Adopt-A-Stray and even better for the kitties. True cat lovers will appreciate the scrutiny and standards to make sure every cat is going to its forever home. Keep up the high standards, Adopt-A-Stray. 👏🏼🐈⬛👏🏼🐈⬛👏🏼
Adopt a Stray is an amazing organization that does so much good in our community. They work so hard to ensure that all their kitties find the best, long-standing, safe and loving homes. Cindy and the staff over the years have dedicated their time and so much selfless effort to ensure people have the most up to date information and support for the lifetime of their furry loved ones! Several kitty parents that adopted many years before have come back to adopt again because of the positive experience they had with Cindy. She is always there to guide, help and support long after the adoption process. If you are looking to adopt a kitty, I strongly recommend checking out Adopt a Stray!
I adopted a cat from Cindy years ago. It's nice to see her standards haven't wavered. 1) HER cats should NEVER be outside cats. There are a ton of predators here! 2) she is very strict because of the amount of time, money and resources she puts in. She has been in rescue a long time and has discretion and places these cats ONLY in the BEST homes!!!
Very disappointing! My husband and I went into PetSmart to buy food for our German shepherd and came across Adopt-A-Stray. We fell in love with a 3 month old kitten and filled out the application. Within 48 hours, I was contacted by Cindy and asked various questions about feeding, different types of litter, where I lived, etc... After our conversation, I was told to pick up the kitten on Saturday but later that night I was contacted again. They have asked me what type of litter I was planning on using. Given that my kitten have their own backyard and personal space, using a litterbox was new to me. Cindy and her staff had a problem with the fact that MY cats were trained to go outside. I was denied the opportunity to adopt because Cindy felt entitled to tell me how I should train and care for MY animals. . Not only did she feel entitled but was very rude and disrespectful during our conversations. Last time I checked, everyone has their own way to feed, train and love their own animals. Adopt-A-Stray needs to find someone more caring and understanding when it come to applicants.
