I was told the dog “seemed” healthy. First red flag. When we got there she didn’t know the name of the dog we wanted and called him “she” many times.. we visited for about an hour ( left around 7:30) and loved the dog and said we wanted him.. well I guess she didn’t like my boyfriend’s enthusiasm because she told us to go home and think about it.. we called her about an hour later (around 8:30) to tell her we love the dog and we can’t stop thinking about him.. no answer. I go on Facebook and see he’s been adopted around 9:30.. absolutely heartbroken.

Amazing shelter! Linda the director is phenomenal! Extremely knowledgeable and great home atmosphere for the dogs! Super friendly and always very neat and clean. Would highly recommend the Great Lakes Humane Society to anyone looking to adopt a 🐕 dog!💕🐾

I give anonymously to no kill animal rescues. Please consider adoption when looking for a pet and report puppy mills to local societies to help stop this horrible tragedies. Also please report abuse, neglect, and abandonment; also pets left out in the cold and lost pets. Take care of them nicely until a shelter or foster home can take them. Consider becoming a shelter and help a best friend get another chance at life.

This Shelter is AMAZING! As is Linda G., the owner and Director of this 501c3 Dog Shelter. Linda only has a small workable number of dogs within the shelter and available for adoption. She vets all the dogs that come to her 100% as soon as possible once they are in her care. Linda and her awesome group of volunteers work daily with the dogs in GLHS adding to their prior training and socialization skills. Getting a good feel for these dogs and their needs to better match with potential families who want to be a dogs furever family. GLHS staff does not adopt to the first person to apply but takes applications, does numerous verifications and checks on potential adopters and look for those that fit dogs needs. The director is amazing and truly cares about the dogs that she helps too find a furever family. I highly recommend the GLHS.

I got a dog for my family so our kids could grow up with animals. We got our dog and she had a lot of issues. She was a mother in a puppy mill. She had bad teeth, ear mites, rash, heart worms, and needed a spay. GLHS said that they would pay for everything, but after the dust cleared they said that they have a $200 cap on paying for care after her sale. We ended up paying around $500 dollars out of our own pocket to take care of her needs. GLHS should have never promised to pay for her care if they were never going to, and they should have had the dog evaluated by a vet before selling her so that the new owners are aware of their issues and what they are getting into. Disappointed.
