Found two abandoned kittens while on vacation that needed a place to go. Reached out via their website and a sponsor got in touch and helped find a foster for them to go to within a week before we went back home. Even offered to help with finding and fixing the mama who ran off and set up a free appointment with their volunteer vet for the kittens' eye infections. Lovely ladies all around and very grateful to them for taking care of those kittens.
Found a momma cat and her litter of kittens in our crawlspace. Tried contacting several other rescue places, could not get through phone lines nor emails. Someone on Nextdoor suggested coming into this place on Saturdays (their adoption place), so grateful for this recommendation because I met Paola, one of their awesome volunteers. Paola helped me trap mom and kittens, and weāre now helping foster them so they can go to an awesome family. š¤
UPDATE: itās been two weeks since this review and I havenāt heard from anybody at this organization. A complete disregard for my concern and feelings. By all means, adopt from them, but donāt trust anything they say. It feels like they played me for the money I offered, and either they donāt want to actually socialize and find the kittens homes (as promised), or they are totally inept/negligent when it comes to socializing kittens. This review will either turn into a scathing 1 star review, or 5 stars. A pregnant cat recent showed up in my momās driveway and gave birth to six kittens under her shed. We tried every rescue and none could help, including Community Concern for Cats (CC4C), who were full. So my mom and I offered $600 to Lea, who I met at the Martinez Pet Food Express, if she could find a foster. The money seemed to work, as very quickly she was able to find a foster (Rachel) to socialize the kittens. I captured all six kittens shortly thereafter and handed them over to Rachel. My mom gave $400 to the foster, I donated $300 through the website, and brought another $300 cash to Lea and her team at the store the next week. CC4C promised the kittens would be placed in a home, as they do not euthanize. After only 2 and 1/2 weeks with Rachel, Lea contacted me saying the kittens are āwildā and need to be released, and the vet estimated their age at 3 to 4 months. This means the kittens were on Rachelās care at 9 and 1/2 to 11 and 1/2 weeks old. Kittens between 9 and 11 weeks should have a VERY high socialization success rate. So I kindly questioned Lea, asking if Rachel was trained on the best socialization techniques. I questioned if the kittenās environment is conducive to success, considering there are young children and other cats around, and that they are in a catio with outside cats also ābothering themā, per Rachel. Lea became extremely defensive and said āIāve been doing this for 20 yearsā and she refused to acknowledge anything I said - she was ārightā and I was wrong. So I sent some links to studies proving the kittens are within a reasonable age to socialize, and sent some links for best techniques to help socialize them. I advised that if they were giving up on the kittens to please contact me first, so I can find somebody competent in socializing kittens that age. No response back from her. No response back from the foster, who has repeatedly said she would send pictures of the kittens, then never did. The lack of human empathy is disturbing. Iāve been extremely distressed over the whole situation, as Iām a huge cat lover, and I see those kittens as my responsibility, as my babies. I contacted the CC4C website and Gemma (founder of CC4C) was quick to respond to my request to speak with her. She promised to look into the matter, but itās been a week now and I havenāt heard back from anybody. For all I know the kittens have been dumped on the side of a freeway, by an organization that promised them a home. It feels like they donāt want to put in the effort to find these kittens a home, and itās more a question of the space that CC4C has available than the reasonable feasibility of successful socialization of those babies. A very upsetting situation Iām in.
Lea and the rest of the staff at CC4C (Martinez Pet Food Express) were extremely helpful during the adoption process for my Mika. As a new pet parent, the foster-to-adopt option was great to see if sheād be a good fit in my home and now weāre inseparableš. Thank you for uniting me and my forever-bestie!
My experience has been vastly different than any of the negative reviews. I visited their adoption day at their adoption location off Newell Ave and ended up taking home Rocky, who is an absolute sweetheart. All the people I worked with and talked to had a genuine care and concern for each and every cat there. They really do good work and save so many cats and I would highly recommend them.
I had left a bad review here because of a bad experience I had with this community and ended up deleting it to give them a second chance. Here I will leave my final considerations as I do not intend to try to adopt through them ever again. I initially tried to adopt two kittens and after submitting my application, I waited for days trying to get in touch. In the end, the person who had the kittens had a personal problem and did not want to finalize the adoption. The second time, I applied again to adopt two kittens that had just arrived on their website. I sent my application and got in touch via text message. Being one of the first people to get in touch and having a good profile, I got my hopes up for adoption. I waited for a week without any contact from them until I sent a message and was informed that the kittens had already been adopted. This makes no sense to me. What I have to say is: Do not get your hopes up about this community, you will be treated with neglect and lack of commitment. And if you have children at home eagerly waiting for kittens, go elsewhere, because here it only brought sadness and disappointment to my children. I do not recommend them.
