Phone calls go directly to voice mail. Refuse to pick up stray dog because they won't do "owner surrenders" and they're not Animal Control Services. The so-called "owner" found the stray and held onto it hoping the rightful owner would claim it. Very disappointed.
My car was reported stolen with my pet inside and found hours later. My passenger windows are taped with holes and it was a decent day, apparently at 9am in Seattle the inside of my car temped 109 degrees and 120 3 hours later. SUPPOSEDLY. Animal control took my pet into custody. I left multiple messages throughout the week and Officer McCaskle neglectfully responded to my messages with aid to retrieve my pet. Once when I finally got him on the phone two weeks after the incident he said he'd call me back with the information and never did until a month later at 1pm (while I was at work) stating I can pick up my dog before 4pm. I got the message late and called back the following day. And the days following that with no follow up. A week after this I call the main department for help with this and an officer Wilkinson stated my dog was taken to a rescue two days prior to this call, because I didn't fill out the paperwork necessary in a timely manner. When I was never even given the information to do so?! The last officer relayed lies from McCaskle, gave me the rescue name and said I can figure out their info on my own. With no other help. I left multiple voicemails every week to get my pet back and just received neglect and lies. Now Im at a loss of my family member because he was either too lazy to respond to my messages or ignorant to give him back to me. This is under review for a civil lawsuit.
Very difficult to work with. The city of Renton should partner with RASKC instead, they were actually more straightforward and helpful for us than Renton animal control. We found what we thought was a stray cat on a Friday afternoon. Our vet suggested we call Renton non-emergency number for animal control, so my partner did. They just told us they wouldn't take a stray cat! The next day we tried to take it to RASKC, but they informed us that since we didn't live in a participating city, they couldn't help the cat. They did scan the cat for a microchip and thankfully it was chipped! No owner info was included, though, so we still didn't know what to do. We tried calling Renton animal control back and this time they said that someone could come by to pick up the cat, so we waited for them to get back in contact with us. Eventually someone called and we told them about the cat and gave them the microchip ID that RASKC kindly provided. About 50 minutes later, they called back indicating that the Renton animal control were the ones who actually microchipped it about a year prior and also returned it to the owner. Why didn't they have the owner register info for the microchip or at least put in info for Renton animal control as a placeholder?? That would have been very helpful and seems like poor management on their part. They also gave us an address of where it was picked up last year, but at the time, we thought they were telling us the address of the owner as they told us the owner's name at the same time. They also suggested we not feed the cat and just let it go. We were not comfortable with just releasing it, so we went to the provided address and talked to them and some other neighbors. After realizing that wasn't the owners address, we called Renton animal control back and they FINALLY gave us the actual address of the owner and also made it very clear that they would not return the cat to the owner for us. We delivered the cat to the owners ourselves. Why couldn't they at the very least give us the actual owners address or better yet, take the pet back to the owner? It is very frustrating knowing how poorly this organization seems to be operating. We have pets ourselves and we pay for pet licenses that supposedly are meant to help with situations like losing a pet, but after this interaction, I have very little confidence that they would genuinely help us.
They do not answer the phone, and call back is 4 days later. Voicemail only gave emergency number to call for all the services they were supposed to provide! But when I called emergency services -- also no answer -- but the voicemail makes it clear they will only respond to emergencies. This was 5 PM on a Thursday .. when the open hours posted here were 7 AM to 7 PM? I guess that needs updating.
I called missing my dog, no one answered and open only on Saturday and Sundays. Finally found a person to talk to, and said Animal Control would call me, it was 4 hours later.
Found a kitty and after a diligent search for the owner for 12 days had to surrender it to Renton Animal Control. They were prompt and caring. I am thankful for their service to our community in no doubt many difficult circumstances.
