The folks at AARF are amazing. We’ve adopted two puppies from them in the last two years. The puppies up for adoption are well socialized which makes it easier for adoptive parents with children or other pets. The volunteers/foster parents provide background information on the pets and are knowledgeable about the pets habits, dispositions, etc. Their love of animals is clear. Thank you, AARF!
I would not recommend this place at all. My husband and I have been looking for a companion and a trainable puppy in the anchorage area for some time. We found AARF and applied online for one of their adoption clinics. We showed up and were told to wait in our car until they called us in. After an hour of waiting we got a text to come into what looks like a warehouse and talked to the woman running this business. She pulled up what I believe was our application, asked for our names and without even asking us questions, looked at us and said we were too young and had to leave. We asked why since we are both adults and have rescued dogs before and she said it was because not only are we just to young but that my husband is in the military. We felt so judged, disappointed and misled. We were lead to believe we could adopt and were never told our application didn't meet their criteria. Their applications are also very invasive to one's privacy with questions asking for personal information about children you might have to where you live and so far as your employers name and number. It even asked if they can just show up to your house and much more. I have worked with rescues for years and have never felt so judged or had my privacy so invaded. I also don't feel like my personal life is their business, it is not only invasive but also a safety hazard. We came home and wondered why they would deny us and a puppy a good well rounded forever home. I found out she cannot legally have animals due to mistreatment which would explain why every dog there was with a foster family. So, how can she deny people who would treat this dog like family when she cannot even have them in the first place. She is doing these puppies a disservice and hindering them from good loving homes which is the opposite of caring for them and treating people poorly in the process. Before going there I would go through these reviews and see the things they have done. It is absolutely sickening and I just hope these puppies and poor families find restitution and the women running this are held accountable.
We adopted our sweet pup from AARF 9 months ago and are so happy we did. We went to meet another dog, but he got adopted before we had a chance to meet him. We talked with the volunteers about our family (elderly dog, 1 cat, 3 kids,) and what we were looking for in a new dog that would be a good fit. Right away they told us a couple of the dogs we mentioned were not good with cats. They were all friendly and very helpful in deciding which dogs would be good with our family. We were able to meet, love on, and do a short walk with 3 of the dogs. They were all so sweet and I hope the other two found great families by now, but our boy just seemed like he picked us. He's been a great addition to our family and we wouldn't have found him without AARF.
AARF is a wonderful dog rescue. When you attend an adoption event you can see the love and care each person puts into this program. They really care about finding the dogs their right home. I’m sure they’ve seen every scenario and learn from it. It was great to watch and learn the process. I’ve been looking for the right pup for over a year now. They let me bring my other dog to meet the pup I was interested in. So thankful that it all worked out. The foster family was there to tell me the good, the bad and what to expect. I really appreciate all the time everyone puts into this program. Thank you so much for loving the pups!
We Got our boy Argos (FKA Zippy/Zipper) from AARF! We love him so much, he's a sweet little guy! The adoption clinic was straightforward and easy to work through, although very different form what I'm used to with a normal shelter.
AARF dogs are lucky to have these volunteers rooting for them and working hard to find them the right furever homes! The adoption application is intensive but I think the ones truly looking for a best bud will do it! Tip: submit application early and have it approved and when you find a buddy you like, it'll be so much smoother and quicker! Bev & Sara were super accommodating to meet with us, thank you ladies!
