Description Animal Rescue Shelter Organization

It's comforting to see such a wonderful group of people caring for the animals at my local shelter. The cats look content, the dogs are ready to socialize, and the shelter stays clean. I appreciate all of the hard work performed every single day to take care of those awaiting a permanent haven. Your dedication is noticed. Give this place and the angels waiting here a chance! To the volunteers/staff: Please don't let the long, heart breaking days discourage you. You are changing the lives of so many in a positive way!
Upon visiting, the first red flag was that the shelter's "trainer" did not know what overcorrection meant. I looked past that, but shouldn't have. The volunteers spent no time vetting me to learn about my wants, needs, and experience with dogs (which ironically is volunteering to help train dogs in shelters to make them easier to adopt). I specifically told the shelter I was looking for an older dog with lower energy to match my current dog's energy level. I specifically mentioned not having time for a puppy despite being experienced in training because I do not have time to train a puppy. We started viewing other pups and I ended up going home with one that should have been a good match. It was not. Despite mentioning that I did not have time for a puppy, I received a dog that needed potty training to the extent puppies do. Over the course of 5 days, the puppy had 8 different accidents. House-training a puppy is not what I was looking for. The dog could not hold its bladder for 2 hours. Not to mention the dog had issues with resource guarding and bit my current dog multiple times. Upon calling the shelter and letting them know I was returning the dog, I was met with an incredibly disrespectful woman on the phone. I was able to briefly mention the issues with the accidents before she cut me off and became rude and disrespectful. I wasn't able to mention the resource guarding because of her communication issues and she got no details about my experience with the dog because of how unprofessional she was on the phone. A responsible person would work to understand the problems and she did not. Upon arriving at the shelter, the "trainer" made several passive-aggressive remarks and barely attempted to get details about my experience with the dog. I was met with the same disrespect that I received on the phone. I also had to explain to the trainer what resource guarding is, and anyone who has trained dogs should know what that means. It was a truly horrible experience. I was not listened to and was expected to take a dog that did not fit my needs. I was met with passive aggression and disrespect because I refused to sign up for an experience I told them I didn't want.
Maryville/alcoa Animal Rescue Center is run solely by volunteers and they do the most amazing job. They can find you the perfect new addition to your family
This place is run by volunteers and are doing such a great job. The animals look happy and ready to be adopted 😊
I couldn’t be happier having found a dog here to adopt! The staff were very caring of the animals, and recommended one for my family. A perfect match!
Don’t bother trying to adopt a cat from this organization. Apparently if you don’t have multiple animals in your home you can’t adopt from them. Most likely because you are at the mercy of whoever decides to foster these animals. Personally I dealt with Cheryl, who deems who is fit and unfit to adopt a cat based on the amount of animals one currently owns. Let these small harmless animals out of their prison into a home for Gods sake. What a joke!
