It has taken a lot of composure to post this review. My husband and I are both full time physicians in Lubbock, we moved here in 2020 so I could complete my surgical residency. We have taken pets to many different vets over the decades but no experience was as mismanaged and heartbreaking as this one. Last week,I took my beloved beagle, Copper, to this location and she was placed under the care of Dr. Lindsey Schroeder for decreased PO intake. Still drinking and alert, they ran tests/labs which were within normal limits. They could not explain her lack of appetite but she was being treated for Cushing disease and presumed to be in an Addisonian crisis (she needed more steroids). I elected to keep her there overnight for monitoring, IV fluids, and steroids hoping it might give her the boost she needed to feel better. The next day, Dr Schroeder (who I had to call after my cases at 1300 bc I had no update) told me Copper still wasn’t eating but otherwise fine to go home. My nanny picked her up due to my schedule and brought her home. When Copper returned home at 1730, she was not fine. She could not walk, fell over every time she tried. She was running into the wall, incontinent, and baying in pain. She was completely disoriented and her eyes were blood shot red. I called the vet to tell her and she said “well idk what else to do, I guess you can bring her back in.” I rushed her back only to be told I would have to wait 2.5 hours because I was a walk in!! After announcing my situation to the front desk and entire lobby, they agreed to take Copper back to monitor her. ***2 hours later, they came in the room to tell me her normal labs had changed and the NaCl in her blood was so high they couldn’t register it on labs!*** They tried to blame it on a potential brain tumor but guys, a brain tumor doesn’t cause these issues in a dog with normal labs in less than 12 hours. After much discussion with other vets from my hometown, I believe my dog was given an inappropriate amount of hypertonic saline fluids and it caused her neurological symptoms and lead to the unthinkable. All because no one was watching what they were doing carefully enough. The vet who examined her that evening said the neurologic damage was irreversible. She was completely disoriented and she was blind. My best friend of 12 years, the one who saw me through medical school, residency, marriage and two children, died in my arms that evening after humane euthanasia was recommended. She was in so much distress and so confused, they were concerned she would die overnight and I did not want her to die alone. I don’t recommend this office due to their apathetic staff (who have no idea how to triage patients), nor do I recommend any animal ever be in the care of Dr Schroeder. I felt she was negligent and had absolutely no care or concern for my Copper, only for making a buck. I have forwarded my concerns to the veterinary medical board of Texas. I urge you no matter where you send your fur baby, to be very careful in whom you choose to care for them. I never saw this coming!! And if this post helps one person to be a little more vigilant in their pets vet care then I try to tell myself my dogs death was not in vain.

I took my cat in twice and they missed his diabetes. Both times diagnosing as a UTI which are not common in cats. The second time, we even saw the owner who didn’t even bother to put his hands on my cat to examine him but just talked down to me the entire time. By the time, we finally got a right diagnosis at another vet clinic, my cat already had kidney and pancreatic damage due to the long misdiagnosis. Never again! Also, I have been going here for a long time before this incident and every single appointment - not walk-in- was an hour late leading me to have to cancel business calls. Effecting MY own business. Totally disrespectful. Don’t do this to yourself. I used this clinic for geographic convenience and because everyone said they were great. There are so many better clinics in Lubbock. Go to them!!!!

Originally, when I debated on writing this review, my emotions were running high, and I wanted to vent my frustrations and disappointment. I was dealing with an overwhelming sense of regret and disbelief over the untimely passing of my beloved fur baby during what should have been a routine procedure. In my grief, I think I expected the impossible, hoping that by sharing a negative review, the pain would somehow lessen. The waves of grief have begun to simmer down, I've come to terms with the heartbreaking reality of my fur baby's loss. It was a tragic, unforeseen incident that no one could have predicted. I've realized that the team at Live Oak genuinely did their best, and it was just a heartbreaking incident. The veterinarian who was there that day was just as distraught as we were, yet she managed to maintain her composure, showing us compassion and helping us understand the situation as best she could. Life has a way of teaching us lessons in the most unexpected and painful ways. We may not always understand the timing of events or the reasons behind them, but through this experience, I've been reminded that the depth of pain and grief I am feeling is equal to the capacity of love I have for her. We will continue to celebrate her short yet incredibly meaningful life, cherishing the love and joy she brought into our world. This review is shared from a place of frustration and anger to a deeper understanding and acceptance of the unpredictable nature of life. With heartfelt gratitude - Kas

We took our dog there yesterday. Once the vet came out and took a look at him not knowing our dog had distemper. They told us to go wait in the car in which we did. We notice them mopping and disinfecting the area. In which I could understand that not knowing what our dog had was contagious. We sat outside for over an hour before the vet came out there. He didn't exam our dog just told us he has distemper. We could have him put down or try medication. We went with the medications. My point is that you didn't even exam him but you charge us $251.00 for an exam and medication. And the medication he prescribe were not the right price. We were charged a higher price than what they really cost. This clinic is highway robbery. We were treated like a nobody. Because we were Black. Black people have dogs too. And we should get the same treatment as everybody else. I will not recommend this clinic to anyone!!!!

VETERINARIAN NAME : CAITLIN ACKER What an awful experience, I had May 17th 2024. ACKER does NOT care or have any empathy towards her families. Today’s visit was devastating… how can you be a vet and “love animals” I know vets get busy throughout the day but we pay money to get annual checks , you need to slow down & show some respect to families and their fur babies. We are not there to talk to your vet techs we want to talk to the vets and get all our answers and as much as information about concerns with a vet . Not the 2 seconds your in the room and you move on to the next room. SLOW DOWN! I took three of my Goldendoodles in for yearly annuals. One of my Goldendoodles heart did not sound normal when listening to it. She just says she’s got a heart murmur let me get you an estimate for a EGK ( My dog has a heat murmur too) then walks out. Never comes back in to comfort us or explain outcomes or ANYTHING! She was AWFUL , rude , and unprofessional. Lack of empathy. We will NOT BE GOING BACK AND I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE. Vets need to understand these are our babies and mean the world to us and they need to slow the hell down and show some empathy and respect and compassion. I will make sure I leave a review about HER everywhere I can. She is so rude. I requested for her to come back into the room so I could talk to her. Had to wait an additional 30 minutes for her to FINALLY COME BACK INTO THE ROOM. Instead of her saying sorry and explain to me more about what a heart murmur is . She assumed I didn’t believe her. I asked her what grade the murmur was. She should have explained to me the first time she was in the room instead I HAD TO ASK . I’m not sure if the nasty retainer in her mouth was the reason to her lack of communication.

I have been taking my pups here for several years, and I really like the doctors and staff. My dogs are always taken care of efficiently and with care. I especially like that they accept walk ins, because sometimes you would like them to be seen right away.
