⚠️LONG STORY WARNING⚠️ We got our dog from this place and we love her to death. However, the people at this shelter are horrible. We got our dog Starr, a husky, about a month ago and they told us to bring her back to have her spayed. So we did and they did the operation and everything seemed to be fine except they told us our dog was pregnant! How they barely found out about it during the surgery was crazy to me, which tells me that they don’t check up on their animals in their shelter because how didn’t they know to tell us about her pregnancy when we first adopted her? So red flag #1. About a week later, we go out to dinner and come back a few hours later to find her covered in blood. The concrete on the back porch looked like a crime scene. There’s blood clots all over the floor. She bled profusely out of her vagina. We get her diapers so there’s less mess in case it happens again, which it did. Then we noticed that she would become very tired and lazy. Would only respond to her name by looking at us not coming. 2 days later she bleeds overnight I’m assuming while we were sleeping because we wake up to blood all over the floor in our bedroom. It was so much that the diaper could not hold it all. So we decide to take her to an emergency vet in Jacksonville, which by the way they are amazing. Shout out to Coastal Veterinary Emergency Clinic. They saved our dog. But we take her to them and run tests on her. She was severely dehydrated, her gums and tongue were pale white. She had 17% red blood cell count while the normal percentage is supposed to be at 35-50%. Basically her tubes were not tied properly and both slipped which caused all the bleeding. She bled out and internally. Blood was flowing freely in her abdomen. So the vet fixed her up real good and I’m happy to say that our dog is doing fine. However, we did have to drop $3600, which we wouldn’t have had to had craven county animal services did their job correctly. We went back to this place to make them aware of what happened and they basically didn’t care. As I was explaining the story, the women was looking at me with a “okay what’s your point?” look on her face. And we gave them the documents from the other vet and they read them and literally went “hm interesting.” They basically didn’t care because we took her somewhere else to save her. I wouldn’t have took her back to that place anyway, they didn’t do the job correctly the first time. Besides, this ordeal happened on Sunday and they do not open until Tuesday, our dog would have been dead by then. They didn’t offer to compensate us any of the cost of the second surgery or even the $125 it took have to the initial surgery that they horribly performed. Do not go here. I’m so glad that we saved our dog from this horrible shelter.
Excellent team that truly cares! This is not your normal shelter experience, the animals are so so well loved and taken care of, and they do an excellent job of keeping the community involved and informed. We had a wonderful adoption process of our 2 kittens Buzz & Kevin! 💕
We recently lost our 14 year old lab from the same shelter. So it was time to save another wonderful dog. So far our experience has been great, and the staff was fantastic. The shelter was so full of wonderful dogs, I was glad we had decided before going, it would have been hard to choose just one.
These guys are the best! They rescued our escaped pup and we had him home the same day.
ABSOLUTELY Wonderful place! I saw Gretchen (the good girl) on To the Rescue by Ricci Law Firm, one morning on the local news, and I met her for the first time that very day. I was looking for a dog to be trained as a service animal, and she fit the bill, across the board. A week later, she was at home with me. (All of her shots, spayed, heart worm negative, micro-chipped, and rabies tag were included) Thanks to Ricci Law Firm and Craven Pamlico Animal Shelter! We have applied for a Service Dog in Training Certification from Craven County Voc-Rehab that should be issued directly after New Years! THANK YOU GUYS!!! Since then, guys... She has been registered with the AKC CANINE COMPANION PROGRAM Which, as you know, enables her to be in a lot of certifiable events. 1) Canine Good Citizen 2) Urban Canine Citizen 3) Farm Dog AND .. Very nice staff. Went to check on a list pet and place flyer on notice board. Even though they just closed they still allowed me in as they checked to see if my lost pet was there. Unfortunately she was not there but they were very helpful and informative. Thank you to this Center and staff.
