OMG! I got a Tour de France loving cat!!! Flash was a stray, seriously starving 7.9 lbs ribs showing, very shy....basically a cat heading for the end, BUT....with outstanding volunteers who helped us connect, outstanding rescue vet services: excellant vaccinations, flea/ringworm/etc. prevention, detailed observations, safe neutering, loving of staff and volunteers, and just good attention....,,I connected with him! I recently lost my 13 year old companion and rescueing Flash has done a fantastic job to help with loss. Well, I love the Tour de France and would you know it he is a fan too!!! Flash is doing well and THANK YOU Frederick Animal Rescue!!!
Today 10/3/24, I called to find out how to surrender my dog and I accidently pushed the deputy line number. I spoke to a lady about how the surrender process goes and she told me she had to transfer me but wanted to know why I wanted to surrender my dog/ why I've waited. I didn't know there was a whole process as I've never surrendered a dog before. She went into detail about how so many dogs are being put down and due to the economic crisis people are losing their homes and have "real" reasons why they have to surrender their dogs. Apparently my reasons aren't good enough even though I didn't tell her my whole financial business...she apparently needed to validate that I deserve to give my dog up. It made me very disgusted because I've had my dog for 3 years and knew day 1 she was not meant to live with us but I kept her. My financial situation isn't great haven't even paid rent this month yet. But she assumed because I said I want to give my dog a better life to run free instead of apartment life I was not deserving. I think giving up an animal can also be because my dog deserves better...not only because of what I can or cannot provide them. She told me why can't I make more time or my dog? Why can't I move things around and make more time to accommodate her? I'm a stay at home mom...I give my dog 100% of my time equal to my children. It was a disgusting way to guilt trip someone into keeping an animal in a situation she doesn't deserve. Apartment living is no place for a Sheppard dog. While I thought I would have a house this year...the economy and losing a job 2 times set my family back and I thought it would be better. Instead of a shelter I'll keep looking within friends and family but I don't think someone should ever talk to someone that way and cut them off mid sentence then transfer them. I get she is passionate but maybe too emotional to be guilting people into keeping their dogs because they aren't deserving of surrendering them in her eyes.
Very helpful and caring staff. Our cat friend Olive, a very shy rescue, had jumped from our balcony one night and went to camp at a nearby conference center campus. FCAC were very friendly and reassuring. We borrowed a HaveaHeart trap and received full instructions on it's safe and effective deployment. It took the full two weeks to gradually coax her into the trap but she is home now and, apart from a very reluctant visit with our veterinary, seems very happy to be back with us. She is purring on my lap as I write this.
Very caring professional staff on hand to help. It is obvious they love the work they do and the animals. The cats when possible were penned with their siblings. Everything was clean, even though there were so many cats. Third time getting a pet from here and have always been happy with the process, the care and the animals. Great Job 👍
We got our Dog from FCAC and couldn't be happier. The staff had worked with him before we even started the adoption process and we couldn't of asked for a better start. The staff trained him how to walk on a leash without pulling, he knows some commands and bonus points for finding us a dog that shys away from cats that warn him to stay back. Thanks again everyone, especially Penny for looking into files and Maggs for helping us out along the way.
They used to allow you to be alone with the dog so you could see if there was an interaction. I don't like the "new way" and all the questions. I have adopted 5 or 6 dogs from there over a span of 30 plus years. I feel it's so cumbersome now, in terms of process.
