Awesome service! So thankful for the food I received for my cats. Very nice people to work with. Very caring about your pets and very helpful in helping with answers you're questions and concerns. They have cats ready for loving home. Awesome place I would highly recommend this place to everyone. "Awesome"
This place help with food and I really appreciated it. But they change of people serving saturdays. And I receive help an old lady called Donna. She was grumpy since I enter to the place. After that just gave a few cans and I just ask a question how many cans help if you owner 5 cats and she answered to rude and told me I don’t buy food to feeding you cats. She is a person mean because the fact I’m there for help me a little bit she is not the o e who buy the food they receive donations and that’s not the way to treat people and I felt discriminated and insulted for her. If you are a volunteer at least they have to treat well people with kindness no like that. I was so disappointed and sad for this happens and just go away from there.
First of all, let me say that the facility in Frederick is the loveliest animal shelter I have ever seen. The cats were kept in very comfortable quarters, given treats regularly, and all appeared well-fed and very clean. That's the good side. On the other hand, we have had a very negative experience and ended up feeling jerked around. My husband and daughter and I went to adopt a cat last Saturday, spent some time with the animals, and filled out the four-page application. Many of the questions are designed to make you think, which is a sensible approach. Some of the behavior from the volunteers was a bit odd, but it was nothing we couldn't deal with. We were told that the cat we wished to adopt had been fostered for over 3 months, and the volunteers could not understand why she hadn't been adopted yet. We were told we would not take her that day; we would need to have an appointment with the foster mother, who wasn't there. (My daughter had been told in an email on the previous day that she would be; but we understand that sometimes plans change). I indicated that I was not available Tuesday, and one volunteer said she would call the foster mother Monday and set something up for Wednesday or Thursday. Monday passed and we didn't hear anything. On Tuesday, I emailed one of the volunteers with whom we had spoken. She replied that she was sorry, but I needed to remember that they were all volunteers. Around 10pm, I received an email from the foster mother informing me that there would be no appointment the next day or the day after. Two other people had applied for the same cat on Saturday, and they were not ready to make a decision, but I would hear from her "soon". We had left the shelter on Saturday around 90 minutes before closing, so we have a hard time believing that they didn't know of at least one of those other applications. I wish they had been honest enough to tell us that we might not be getting that cat. My family was upset by this and we felt like we were being given the runaround. When we hadn't heard anything one way or the other by Friday, we gave up. We went to another shelter, had background checks done on the internet and applications completed in about 40 minutes, and left with a lovely new feline companion. Much better experience!
Told them I wanted these 2 particular kittens a couple months ago and the response was lagged. Finally get a hold of someone and they asked about a previous cat I had owned that I listed on my application whether or not I had to re home him. I told them no, he was very sick and unfortunately had to have him put down, I had owned this cat over 10 years ago. They denied my application. I’m extremely disappointed and so are my children. I will never go here again.
While I was able to adopt a cat several years ago, this past month was an extremely disappointing experience. They didn't get back to me for several days and when they finally did they told me I was not a suitable candidate. When I asked for an explanation they refused to give me one. It seems to me of their mission is to find homes for needy animals and to educate prospective fur parents, they ought to offer some feedback. I have rescued several dogs and cats and spent thousands of dollars on them. I am a compassionate and loving pet owner. I know these people are volunteers, but being a volunteer does not mean you have a pass to be dismissive or rude. I ended up adopting a cat from another group. I will never go to AWL again and will pass on my neagative experience with anyone who plans to adopt.
We have adopted three kittens (now cats) from this group and have had nothing but wonderful experiences. This is a group run by volunteers and they do amazing work saving animals. Our cats were all well socialized and I believe that is a result of excellent fosters! Thank you AWL-FC for all you do.
