I never had any problems staying here but I would have liked it better if they allowed my girlfriend and I to domicile. The men's wing looks like a prison and stinks. The real stinky ones never take a shower so you could imagine. I left but my girlfriend stayed on. A week later and I don't know where she is or if she is even there. What a drag. I gave them 5 stars because I was starving when I got there and they fed me 3 times per day.

Uhhh, Trust and believe that you're better off advocating for yourself from the streets. This place will treat you like you're in prison while you're there. If you don't join their (so-called) Christian program then you are denied services across the board! Good luck getting clothes, a shower, laundry services and even shelter otherwise...As far as You're dignity and self worth goes; they will squash that as well. They are only there to help recovering addicts turn into "Super-Christians". If your not down with their program then you are just simply " down and out"!

The worst place I’ve ever been to period. The place is disgusting and dirty and the people there that call themselves staff and call themselves Christians talk down on people and talk bad to people and they make you feel like you’re in an institution to get abused more than anything and it’s completely appalling to me that anyone in these so called staffs shoes would treat people as they do. It’s dirty, it’s stinky and they do not enforce showers although they have showers and when they do enforce showers it’s in a very disrespectful manner. They also constantly threaten people of being kicked out for 30 days to get what they want. Nobody should have to go through this treatment. I don’t believe these so called staff are Christian whatsoever.

When I first moved to read in about 7 years ago I began part-time volunteering with the mission and that was not the first experience I've ever had as I actually ran a Teen Challenge branch In Sacramento in the early '70s after working for a while in the San Francisco mission district Teen Challenge. I got involved with a local large church here in Redding and after a while I just did not have time to actually work at the mission but I've continued to give weekly or monthly, I can't remember automatic donations to it. I do come into contact very regularly with many of the homeless people in Redding and who passed through Redding. It's just kind of funny because almost every one of them who's been around a while has made use of the beneficence found at the mission but on the other hand they quickly move into all the negative things they can think of. Mostly and I hate to say it, it is just a lot of victim mentality and entitlements spirits working and the mission doesn't fulfill all of their desires so they end up being ingrates. I don't remember but I think it's been pushing 60 years since the mission has been here helping people. Come on! Only God does stuff like that.

They will van you for minor infractions. My son was banned for life for "inappropriate dancing" in the mends dorm. He was twerking. A 21 year old kid goofing around. My son doesn't use drugs. He works whenever he can find work. He's autistic and has severe Childhood PTSD. I am a mental health advocate in the community. I've seen people treated horribly unless they adopt the Mission's version of Evangelical Christianity. The Mission also has connections to Bethel. There are many Bethel volunteers & Chris Valloton gives sermons there. Tragically this is the only shelter in Redding.
