I would like to help feature a current dog that's available at the Syracuse SPCA named "Mitch." I had the opportunity to get to know him this past month visiting with him and even doing a meet and greet with my current dog Sam. He was nothing but a gentle gentlemen around her. I was very close to adopting him but my responsibilities in getting my elder dog to the eventual finish line took me out of contention. That being said, Mitch is legitimately one of the sweetest dogs I've ever come across in my travels. Even in his kennel, when other dog's are getting vocal and energetic, he is as cool/calm a customer as you'll find in that environment-- beyond chill. He knows how to sit and lay down, and if you hand him a treat, he's so gentle taking it from you it almost looks like he's doing it in slow motion! He would be a perfect dog for a home looking for a laid back and loving soul. Unfortunately, he's been there since this past November after arriving as a stray. Bottom line, he deserves a great owner and a great life. As of 3/25/2024 he's still there and ready for his forever home. The picture attached to this review is as recent as last week. So what are you waiting for? Go visit Mitch!! He's a gem! You won't regret it!! The end.
As with all shelters, the cnyspca is a hard place to be in. All these animals in cages, many of which have had traumatic lives, waiting for a forever home. But the staff take care of them, give them medicine they need, walks, love. We just adopted and we're grateful for the kindness of the cnyspca staff.
The staff members are awesome! It was wonderful seeing so many people help with the animals. If you are looking to adopt, stop here first.
I got my Lucky from here. He has brought so much joy to our home. He is such a blessing!
The staff was short and the place smelled like urine even after they had sprayed down the animal rooms prior to opening. It did appear that the animals were well taken care of and let out regularly which was nice. Even though we did not find a small dog to be a companion to our Dachshund we will try again sometime soon.
We adopted Esther the cat back in 2015 who now proudly goes by Booboo (before and after pic included) and she has the most mean resting face but has come such a long way since we got her she was scared of doors and wouldn't drink out of a water dish but now she has our malamute (which we adopted in 2019 who goes by Mishka) and our pitmix wrapped around her little fluffy fingers. They were super helpful and let us meat countless cats and dogs until we found our perfect match. Im so glad we could help these 2 amazing animals get their furever homes! They made the most perfect additions to our family
