I adopted my dog from here in October of 2020. When we visited the facility, it was dirty, all the dogs were in cages full of dirt, some had no water or food, and some were clearly injured. The website and flyer on our dog's crate indicated she was approximately 6 1/2 years old. When we asked the staff about her, they said that was incorrect and she was only 2 and raised the adoption fee by at least another $100. Before finalizing the adoption, they indicated she was not spayed and would need to keep her over the weekend to do the surgery. After finalizing the adoption, the on-site vet indicated she was actually spayed and we were good to take her home that day. 2-3 months later, she went into heat. When we took her to the vet, they let us know she was in fact 6-7 years old and clearly not spayed. When I let the rescue know, they invited us to bring her back to get spayed there. If your vet can't even somewhat accurately tell me the age of my dog and if she is spayed or not, why would I trust you to do surgery on her?? This year, I found out the owner of the "rescue" was found guilty of misdemeanor cruelty to animals. After seeing the state of this "rescue" and all the subsequent health issues I had to address with my own dog, I am not surprised in the slightest. I want to support any animal rescue for the sake of the animals already in their care, but steer clear of this one.
I fostered these sweet dogs for New Hope Rescue. NHR cares so much for the animals that come to them. As a new foster, I received excellent help on how to care and provide for the animals I fostered. Employees would call the dogs by their names and were always happy to see them. All these animals are in great homes thanks to New Hope's hard work and love to save them from the kill shelter they come from.
My family wanted a puppy/dog but knew he had to be a rescue. Being new to Colorado Springs we looked at several places and found New Hope. The on-line home page had a lot of helpful information. And adoption process was thorough to make sure the animals were going to a good home. Even after we brought Spencer home they stayed in contact with us. Great organization with a big heart.
Three of our four dogs came from New Hope. Our experience has been wonderful. When it turned out our third pup had some serious health issues, Joann was amazing - very supportive. NHR is a rescue, not a shelter. I’m not sure everyone knows there is a difference. NHR gets the dogs and cats out of high-kill shelters in New Mexico and brings them to Colorado to be adopted. I’d say that if you are not willing to take a chance on an animal the rescue doesn’t know much about, stick to the ones who have been in foster for a bit. The foster families know A LOT about cats and dogs and can give you a really good idea what to expect. That being said, the longer those sweet babies are in a loving, permanent home, the more of their personalities will come out. I wouldn’t change a thing about any of our doggos!
My brother and I went to New Hope Rescue to look at one dog for myself. We loved the dog we went to see and also fell in love with her sister. Knowing they were bonded, and could not spilt up I adopted one and my brother adopted the other. Now the girls get to see eachother everyday! We got the best dogs we could have ever asked for! Thank you to the team at New Hope! Keep up the great work you do! Jill
My husband and I adopted a dog named Echo. The process was easy and the staff was very friendly. Echo is an awesome dog and fitting in perfect with our family. Overall I would recommend New hope rescue to anyone looking to save a dogs life!
