I brought my cat Fefe in last minute last year because I found her limping on her front leg. The x ray found no signs of injury but the vet suggested to put her under cut her open to find no sign of abscess or anything that would be causing a limp. They cut her open for no apparent reason which came up to above $1500 and her stitches came undone twice I had to come back in it was so poorly done. I witnessed from another owner the same situation with their dog's stitches. The urgency to cut an animal open instead of taking precautionary measures such as antibiotics or pain medications or delaying an operation until information was concrete shows questionable practice here.
Giving more than 1 star because of the cleanliness and front desk staff. They were professional, understanding, patient, and efficient. If not for them, I would give 1 star due to the veterinarian and the cost for services. He cut me off every time I spoke when trying to ask a question or explain things for his questions. I called my husband to have him on speaker and he experienced the same thing. In the end he said the course of treatment, with no other options or risks if we didn't agree to the plan. He just said the plan and told me to come over and sign the paper. I looked at it and saw the cost and was immediately taken aback. Asked what the typical outcome is if we let it run its course naturally and the response was that it typically runs its course naturally. I offered another solution which was to bring her home and bring her back if it wasn't the case after the timeline, which was a completely feasible option even to him. We avoided over $1k in charges and an overnight stay for a scared pup. I'll only go there if I absolutely have to in the future.
These people are just amazing!! They were so fast in responding to my pet who had been run over by a car. Beginning with the front office staff all the way up to the doctor, absolutely everyone was professional, empathic, and communicated clearly and effectively. Highly recommend this hospital for trauma and regular care!!
First things first the star rating isn’t indicative of my overall experience but more so a warning. The front desk/intake staff was beyond kind and amazing with all of the interactions I had. Pricing is great for after hour and emergency care too. We went into SSVH late on Thursday October 5th 2023. The first vet assigned to our visit, Dr. McCray, seemed cold but understandably so the job isn’t easy. Based on the signs my dog was giving she said that it was likely that my dog had bloat so X-rays were taken. In my opinion she briefly looked over the X-rays and told me my dog had cancer of the spleen and that he was bleeding internally because of it. She told me there wasn’t anything that they could do and that I would have to euthanize my boy and quickly sent me to the front desk to choose arrangements for his aftercare. She had minimal if not zero empathy and because of her mistake I almost prematurely euthanized my best boy. I was met at the front desk by another vet (I wish I had his name, he was kind patient with me) as I was getting ready to make payment for my dogs cremation etc., this vet told me he didn’t believe my dog was internally bleeding. I gave him consent to do blood work and everything was in the normal range (no signs of cancer), good vitals, his gums had color (they wouldn’t if there was internal bleeding) etc. This vet pointed out severe arthritis in the spine and said it was likely inflamed and a more likely the reason for my dogs discomfort and behavior based on all of the information he was given, his enlarge spleen was just coincidental at the time of the X-ray. The second vet asked if I wanted to take my boy home with pain meds to manage this flare up and if nothing changed to bring him back in the following day to do more testing. My dog was happy as a clam all weekend practically his old self, just at a slightly slower pace and still doing well. While I’m thrilled with my overall experience, I’m beyond horrified at the lack of care and compassion on Dr. McCray’s end. I feel that she didn’t thoroughly go over the X-rays or seek additional opinions from her colleagues on top of how she handled telling someone they would be euthanizing their fur-family and quickly sending them to arrange and pay for aftercare services. This negligence almost took the most precious being from my life and I’m afraid that the same will happen to others.
DO NOT RECOMMEND. My cat had UTI, they were the only ER that was willing to take my cat in the same day. However, the doctor suggested my cat staying overnight and getting a surgery without giving me clear diagnosis. The quote was like $5000 plus. But he could not tell me why my cat needed this surgery. And he said there is chance that my cat couldn’t make it through the surgery. That was too suspicious so I left and went to another walk-in clinic. My cat got some painkiller and was back to normal in 3 days. I’m just so glad I didn’t let my cat go through the unneeded surgery and suffer more. I can’t imagine what his life quality would be if he had that surgery.
I had a really good experience with South Seattle Veterinary Hospital today. They were able to squeeze me in for a same day ultrasound appointment. I have a senior dog who is unfortunately deteriorating pretty quickly and I really appreciate they took time to understand my situation and accommodate it. The staff was super friendly and nice, both on the phone and in person. The procedure was fast, and Dr McHaffie spent a lot of time explaining to me what they found and what the options were. I really appreciated how thorough he was, how he took the time to answer my questions, and that he wasn’t pushing me down any extreme paths of treatment. Thank you to the staff at South Seattle Vet Hospital!
