Description Metairie Small Animal Hospital has been devoted to health maintenance and emergency care in the New Orleans metropolitan area for over 70 years. We offer comprehensive care for your pet 24/7, 365 days a year. Our services range from wellness exams and house calls to boarding and surgical procedures – and everything in between. In addition to the Main Hospital on Metairie Road, we also operate five Out Patient Clinics in Kenner, Metairie, Lakeview, Freret Street, and the Marigny in New Orleans to better serve our clients.

We used this hospital a few times for different dogs in emergency situations. The front desk was so kind. The vets on duty were completely amazing. They don’t try to run up a bill either. Outstanding care.

The celebration of a new family addition is always with open arms and all the necessary info you need to keep your pet going strong for years to come. Dr. Brian is our #1 MD but they have been so fortunate to have such a well rounded and excellent physician group. We are truly thankful for all of the time, care, concern and effort we have received for decades.

I utilized this emergency animal hospital for my cat who unexpectedly couldnt use right back leg. Upon arrival I attempted to use the after hours door bell…which apparently doesn’t work. I called on my way & was assured they were there. Yet, I had to walk around knocking on windows to get into the “hospital”. It was after 11pm and My Cat was conscious upon arrival. After an hour in waiting room, the “vet” came in to negotiate costs? We knew why we were there & expected to pay for services. However during her “worst/best costs presentation” which was a dislocated hip & shock…a vet tech rushed in to get her to treatment for emergency!!! How? Our pet was alert & just limping upon arrival. Then 10 mins later she returns to tell us our beloved pet is being kept alive for us to say our goodbyes. Our cat was basically laying there dying! In retrospect, If she had spent time caring for him instead of spending valuable time playing “let’s make a deal” with us maybe he would still be alive. We were prepared to pay whatever for our baby! I’m still shocked. Then while he’s taking his final breaths w/us present, they are putting a doc to sign for cremation in my face. This was Thursday April 4th 2024. It’s now June 8th and no one has even called us about his cremation. I don’t even know if they picked his body up yet! I don’t know how this hospital is with regular vets appointments but obviously I don’t recommend them for emergency hospital services. FYI: The vet who was there was not the regular vet. Also…I should have read the reviews here first. Apparently they have a history of poor care/high death rate for Cats.

Dr. Meredith is the best ever! My dog has never felt more safe and secure with a doctor. She is kind and gentle. She is always remembers every ailment or concern I have mentioned even if it has been a year since seeing us. She truly cares about the pets she sees and is shows in every way. Thanks Dr. Meredith!!

Every staff member is highly qualified. Courtney has been giving our senior dog laser treatments and he is acting like a puppy again. We are so happy with MSAH. We have been patients for 8 years now.

The vet, tech and front of house staff were all so lovely! I've never been anywhere and felt so immediately at ease. They were patient with my shy dog and attentive to all the little nit-picky things I wanted to discuss. It could not have been a better experience!
