If your pet needs help, bring them here! It was our first time coming to PEMC when we came home from an over night trip and one of our kitties seemed extremely sick. We were weary of just dropping our pet off, but the staff and doctors were so knowledgeable and reassuring. Within not even 10 mins of our boy Stitch being taken inside, the vet was out to speak to us about him. Our boy was in a “life threatening state of shock” due to a urinary blockage. They wasted no time caring for Stitch, they called and updated me with any changes, good or bad. Everyone I spoke to was honest (even through the bad news) and very kind and patient with all my concerns and questions. They saved our boy’s life, he didn’t have high chances of making it but they did everything they could and they got him back to health. Dr. Shepard and Steven, I thank you both with every beat of my heart. You were kind, honest, Knowledgeable, and very caring to all my concerns, questions, and most importantly, towards my kitty and his health needs. I cannot reiterate enough, IF YOUR PET NEEDS HELP, BRING THEM HERE! We took our boy home this morning and couldn’t be more grateful.
Not sure how to say thank you enough for saving my dog Gloria's life. Dr Montilla is by far one of the best vets I've ever encountered. His bedside manner is just as stellar as his expertise and talent. I was blown away by not only how he handled our case but every other pet owner in the parking lot that night. He is Kind, compassionate, patient, straightforward, informative, and understanding. All qualities that are pertinent when your loved one is experiencing an emergency- but very few have them all. Caitlin, Stephen, jason, Tara and a few other techs also deserve the best praise in the world. All Extremely thorough and calm but honest. Caitlin- thank you thank you thank you. I'm sorry I was a mess. Your energy and advice calmed me and helped me tremendously that night. Dr Giovonda thank you for also taking care of Gloria in the ICU the next day and releasing her with the most detailed and easy to read instructions. Cannot recommend this practice enough. The exterior does it no justice. I was wary when I arrived - but they far exceeded my expectations. Thank you forever for saving my baby's life.
The staff was attentive, friendly and saved my furbaby who had a piece of circuit vinyl stuck in the back of his throat! It was after hours they didn’t price gauge me it was so overwhelming to think of going knowing I might not be able to afford it and they charged me only for the visit not even for pulling the piece of vinyl out they saw me a balling mess and how much i loved my Southpaw! Thank you to the staff and doctor who was so quick and efficient and came out with the piece of plastic in thongs minutes after my arrival they wasted no time and took care of him immediately! I am so grateful! I love my furbabies they are my family! Highly recommend and if ever I need a place I will be back you have a customer for life now and word of mouth is the best form of advertising I will tell anyone and everyone with a pet I know this is the place to go! Thank you 🙏 and GOD bless you guys! I might not pay a bill this month but I won’t be sleeping in my car to save my baby either!
I’d give 6 stars if I could! Dr. Mettee and her techs took my miniature dachshund, Sage (15 wks, 3.5 lbs at the time) in with zero hesitation. Into surgery right away at 8pm, Dr. Mettee fixed my girl’s small intestine. I will never forget how reassured I felt in my decision to leave my dog at PEMC when I left their parking lot. I got the call around 10pm that Sage was in recovery. Thankful does not even begin to describe the feeling. This was not robot medicine, I was not just another client. I was seen and heard as a concerned pet owner. Hopefully I’ll never have to see Dr. Mettee again, but you better believe if any of my fur kids need help, she’s who I’m calling!! Thank you SO much, PEMC staff! -Sage, Maple, & Nicole
Took my kitten there that was abandoned by its mother on my doorstep. At first (3weeks old) he was treated at a different vet for coccidia then was fine for 5 weeks. At 8 weeks he started throwing up and not eating right before this recent storm and they were the only place open. All we had AT THE TIME, due to everything being shut down, unable to contact relatives, spending money on supplies for the storm, and so and so forth was $300 after spending also $300 there the day before. It wasn't the last dollars I would ever have. The lady doctor with the blunt iscut pink short hair made me RELINQUISH him in order to "save his life" over what turned out to be worms, telling me it was an obstruction that looked like bone when all he had been eating is kitten pate and that it would cost $12,000 for surgery. She misdiagnosed a bundle of roundworms in his intestinal tract and all he actually was needed hydration to pass it. She was so cold and unfeeling while we were crying in hysterics. I then spent 2 days desperately humiliating myself online with a go fund me trying to raise $12,000, lost relationships with 4 family members forever over "stooping to the level of GoFundMe" for Pet Emergency of Martin County to call me 2 days later asking if "I was WILLING to take him back". I was literally crying and begging them the day before to let me pay for the rest of it after the storm and get him home but the pink haired nurse said I wouldn't even be allowed to find out if he was ok and she was going to re-home him to someone who could afford his "special needs". That I wasn't allowed to even call because I "can't afford my cat". I called anyway because my daughter was destroyed and so were we. The bill was $912. We paid for their "services" and I got our cat back LIKE HOW TRANSACTIONS WORK. She only even took him cuz of the storm but made us sign papers to relinquish him over what turned out to be worms. Calling him special needs without doing any testing yet to suggest special needs, saying we can't afford him and treating us like peasants. Who the hell do you think you are lady? No special needs, no surgery. She put me, my husband, and my 13 year old daughter thru that during a storm when we were already scared, and she did it OVER WORMS he got from his mother's milk. They still refuse to tell us what the obstruction was because they know they messed up and it was worms, not bone🙄. Also I don't know what they did to him but he can't be left alone now or he cries non stop. Never wants to be put down, freaks over little noises. He didn't act like this before HER. They dosed him with gabapentin every 6 hours, probably just to shut him up. I wanna be clear. Dr James Shepherd was amazing but when I was left to deal with blunt cut short hair meany the next day that's when it went sideways. Because all I could access in the approach of a hurricane was $300 she said "We couldn't afford this stray cat" She has no compassion. I was so afraid she was going to put him down. I think when Dr. Shepherd came in he immediately knew she screwed up. All in all we spent $300 then another $300 then $900 on this cat in less than 4 weeks, $1200 of it at Pet Emergency Meanies of Martin County. And $300 at a different vet. But she says I can't afford my cat. Don't let her near your pet. I understand they could have just turned me and my cat away but I didn't come in there hat in hand. I had already gave them $300 when I saw Dr. Shepherd the day before. And finally when things started to open back up and the storm passed we paid our outrageous unnecessary bill because we promised our daughter we would move mountains to get him back. She no longer wants to be a veterinarian thanks to that lady and is so jaded now by this experience. Thanks for strong-arming and humiliating us during a natural disaster. I intend to speak with our lawyer about this. To Dr Shepherd, thank you. I truly think you are a beautiful soul but you desperately need a a change in staff. Long haired girl with pink hair was a sweethear. Blunt cut pink haired meany is the problem.
We have been to this ER several times over the last 12 years with both of our dogs for a couple of urgent needs outside of our vet's regular hours. While we've had good experiences generally here, we had a less than ideal experience today. It had been several years (prior to Covid) since we used this ER, but we called today when our senior dog was having an urgent issue after hours and while they got her in right away they failed to mention on their website and over the phone that they are strictly a "curbside" ER now. You are no longer able to accompany your pet inside and wait for care with your pet. We reluctantly let them take our 13 year old dog inside for emergency care while we were forced to wait outside for them to come outside to update us. The first staff member we encountered was less than reassuring but we were pleased with the doctor, Dr. Shepherd and with another nurse that was far more empathetic. We chose to stay only because the doctor put us at ease with his "curbside manner". If you're going to bring your pet here for an urgent matter, just know that you'll have to anxiously await outside while your beloved pet goes inside without you. It's very disconcerting.
