I came to spokanimal to adopt a new best friend. originally I was very nervous because this was a big exciting decision. The staff at spokanimal were helpful with what i needed, but i do have to say i am very disappointed with the conditions the dogs are in. A majority of the dogs were covered in urine. There was a whole litter of puppies and their enclosure was full of their own waste, and there was a lot. Ive been around a lot of puppies and they do potty a lot but they should NOT sit in it. An old staff member told me the staff is not allowed to walk the dogs and that the dogs sit there alone after hours. Please if you are able to, take a trip to spokanimal and adopt a dog or a cat. They honestly dont have great lives and all of them are very sad but they dont have to be if they can find the right homes. I adopted George, a cute collie, he just so happens to be the sweetest and best behaved boy ever. Its an understatement to say im in love with him. And i can tell he loves me and is glad to be out of there. No shade to spokanimal but for real they could be doing better for the dogs.
They were fantastic. We adopted our purebred pitbull from them and she’s an amazing dog. Not a single thing wrong with her. She did get sick with kennel cough within hrs of bringing her home but we got her to the vet right away and she was healthy enough to recover quickly. I would adopt from them again.
On June 27, 2023, I adopted Wendy, a German Shepherd puppy dog from Spok Animal. She had PARVO, she had WORMS, she was severely under weight, and after over $1,000.00 in medical treatment, she died on July 3, 2023, even though her medical paper work from Spok Amimal showed that she did NOT have worms and was otherwise healthy. The veterinarian told us that we could NOT bury her in our yard because her viral load was so LARGE that contamination of our soil would be our outcome, so Wendy was cremated. On July 3, 2023, Dori Peck, Executive Director of Spok Animal called me to to inform me that one of Wendy's siblings was adopted and that Dori Peck had received reports from the Man that his puppy dog had serious health problems and so she asked me how Wendy was and I told her that she DIED this morning. During this very same phone call, Dori Peck told me that she would be sending me a check in the mail to cover the adoption $300.00 adoption fee and half if not all of the medical bills. I have NOT received any check, I have not received any response, other than on September 28, 2023, from Dori Peck stating, "Hello, We will be in touch with you about a reimbursement check soon." I am leaving this TRUTHFUL review today, September 27, 2024, because Dori Peck CLEARLY has no intention of making this right, thus other's will more than likely be having the same issue at some point when adopting animals from Spok Animal. RIP Wendy!
Terrible customer service. I emailed about a dog adoption. I asked if the dog is still available and where she is located. It took over a day for a response and it just gave the regular address. When I arrived the rude lady at the front desk didn’t even acknowledge us. We waited 5 minutes until she finally said hello. I told her I had emailed about a specific dog and all she said was all dogs are through that door. We walked around the kennels and didn’t see her so when back to the desk. We waited over 15 minutes more while she was talking to a customer. She also played on her phone, answered text messages, and just sat there doing nothing. Two more people came in and she didn’t acknowledge them either. Finally she asks rudely what I wanted. I pulled their website up on my phone and asked to check the status of the dog. She looked it up, took 10 seconds, and told me the dog was adopted this morning. Why could they not tell me that in the email? I asked why they didn’t update their website. She rudely told me they did, “it’s realtime”. As I’m literally on the website, I just had opened to get the dog number for her look up. The dog is even still on there now. Seems a scam to bait and switch people that come in. Please hire new people.
My previous review from last year seems to have disappeared, but I feel it's important for people to know what they are getting into with Spokanimal, so here it goes again. We adopted a 6 year old cat, named Theo, from Spokanimal via PetSmart in Nov 2023. He is the absolute sweetest boy and we almost missed out on him because he had gotten adopted by someone else earlier in the week but was brought back because the guy was allergic to him. The lady working there was very motivated to send him home with us even though her phone had gotten stolen earlier that day and she had no way to take a credit card payment. She went so far as to take whatever cash we had on hand at the time, even if it didn't amount to his adoption cost (although we did come up with the right amount) and even gave us a bunch of random items from the adoption room such as dishes, scratch pads, extra food, etc. We walked out of there feeling like we somehow got scammed because it didn't feel right, but we got the cat, so where's the scam? We found it 30 days later. Within 20 minutes of bringing him home, I realized his ear was bothering him and he likely had an ear infection. Because he had just been returned to Spokanimal, the lady had told us there was no paperwork on him and that they would send us his medical history later via email, but I know shelter animals usually come with some health problems, so whatever. We obviously didn't want to take him to Spokanimal's clinic since they had missed this infection in the first place, so we found a vet and got him on meds, which didn't work. We put him on different meds, still no help. By this point, three weeks in, he was scratching his ears constantly, shaking his head, and flinging hot, green goo mixed with blood all over our house. The vet referred us to Dermatology for Animals in Liberty Lake. They cleaned out his ear with a swab and immediately saw a mass in his ear. 32 days after adopting this cat, we spent $3,000 unexpected dollars on a surgery for him, not including the vet bills from the appointments beforehand and afterward. My issue with Spokanimal is that they didn't tell us any of this. I ended up reaching out to the guy who had originally adopted him for the first few days before returning him, and he said he never got paperwork about his medical history either and they didn't mention any health issues. According to him, he had been at the shelter for 4 months, which is long enough for them to have noticed the infection. If they had been paying any attention to him or giving him any kind of care, this is something they should have and would have noticed. And if they couldn't afford to do the procedure on him, they should have at least let us know that he had this pending issue. Thank god we could afford to have a sudden expense like this because who knows what his fate would have been if someone in a different position would have adopted him. Compare this to the Humane Society who wouldn't let us go home with a cat because he had thrown up a couple times over the last several days. They put him on a medical hold for 4 days so they could monitor him, give him meds, and even gave him an xray so that if they sent him home with someone, those people would know exactly what they were getting into. Pet ownership is going to be full of unexpected expenses, but it fully felt like they knew of his issues and withheld the information from us so that we would take him off their hands. He is still battling ear problems a year later, but we love him so much we don't care. I just want other people to know that Spokanimal is not going to be upfront with you, so do your due diligence. Or better yet, adopt from the Humane Society.
Thank you for helping me find my best friend❤️ the whole process was so smooth and I felt supported the entire way through the foster-to-adopt program. Nala rose (Zara) says THANK YOU!🐾
