HEARTBROKEN! I adopted an adorable furbaby last Saturday but was told she had to be spayed before I took her home. I spent the next 3 days building a fence for her and preparing for her to come home. I emailed on Tuesday to see if the operation happened with no response. Wednesday I called to see if she had the surgery and was ready to go home. I was told she had, with no further information. When I showed up to pick her up I asked about socializing her with another possible adoption while she was there. But I was told "no, she has kennel cough"! There was no mention on the phone before I left so I could contact my vet to prepare and they were already out of the office by the time I found out and tried to call for advise. I had to leave her there to make arrangements to keep my other dogs safe with the intention of coming back for her the next day. However, they would not hold her for me and immediately gave her to someone else! My whole family is heartbroken. I'd shared her picture with my 3 yr old grandson that is waiting for his new dog. I had the feeling when I left that someone else had spoken for her... I just hope she found a good home that understands her unique needs, and they person knows they adopted a sick pup! I will not adopt from here, or recommend this place to anyone. UPDATE: the pup I adopted instead of Chloe has a nasal mass. $2k ER visit for breathing issues and $6k+ to biopsy… no help from City for adopting a terminal stray. I am a firm believer of rescuing rather than buying from a breeder. But I have to wonder how no body noticed his labored breathing in the 2+ weeks in their care.
The serious matter of a beloved member of the community being nothing less then Murdered by a service that had in the records the information to reach the owner. The fact that they could have walked Him any direction for a short distance and been aware of someone who was known and knew personly BUDDY. His life being taken is a serious matter and unjust in every way. Mr. MADLEEZ BUDDY COCHRAN Was loved by His owner and was Her handsome Buddy. He was my Buddy Pal. He was wished the best possible life and care able as He was loved by the Community and He loved His community The time He had was cut short and I will forever be angered and hurt as He was so smart and He was alone and scared, knowing that they intend to kill Him. I was not able to get Him as I was in no way believing they were so cruel in a knowing of the fact that His being saved from their seriously bad practices was recorded and they had information on the owner and His death is not okay. I pray that BUDDY and the memory of Him will be in some way made a law changing the killing of lost or separated and loved family members
I am not sure if this shelter is responsible for the review. Whoever investigates animal neglect or cruelty in Thurston County failed to help the dog that I needed help. They made contact with his owner because of a report and asked her to allow them to take him and when she refused just walked away. He had to suffer and suffer for more than four months . I can't understand how or why that had to happen to him or any animal . This isn't a good service. I am suffering because I cared and others as well. I am mad that that it didn't help to report neglect and I failed to help this dog. He deserved more . Thanks for turning your backs on this dog.
The adoption process was so quick and easy. The staff are super helpful and kind. They even reached out to check up on my newest addition, offered help if needed, and gave me advice on introducing him to our resident pet. I think that is very honorable! Thank you.
This is a wonderful agency that provides a vital resource to our community. What Joy said never happened. This is a no-kill shelter. They would never euthanize a perfectly healthy animal. Also, there is a mandatory law that they have to hold strays for 3 days prior to putting them up for adoption. There is no way that a healthy animal was euthanized that quickly. They also do not put down cats just because they are black. Why do people keep posting lies?
My 17 yr old cat recently passed away, and I donated leftover food and toys to Animal Services, which is where I got my cat so long ago. I got a little emotional when I walked in, which I didn't expect. Plus, I saw a tuxedo kitten waiting to be adopted, which looked like mine.I told the lady behind the counter, and she was so nice and compassionate.
