Description From the way your dog rests their head on your feet as you work, to the way your cat carefully touches your face with their paw before you fall asleep – you know your pet better than anyone else. This simple fact makes you such an important part of your pet’s healthcare team. No veterinarian can do their work without your careful observations, your intimate understanding of your pet’s history, or your eager willingness to be the voice for your loved one. At Mt. Tabor Veterinary Care we welcome you as an integral part of your pet’s healthcare team. Together we can give your best friend a happy, healthy life.

Attempted to over medicate our puppy, lack of interest in general and did not establish trust in 2 appts. We tried this vet clinic after adding a corgi baby to our family as 1st time pet parents. I’m sorry to say we have since gone to a better vet, thankfully. We saw 2 different vets here. Our initial experience at puppy’s first visit was confusing, overwhelming and felt awkward. I was invested in developing a trusting relationship and remaining w/ this clinic so I called after the first appt to express my issues w the 1st vet and set an appt with one of the owners. The 1st vet we saw back in November ‘23 seemed aloof (almost high) and missed some minor things in the initial appt (did not check his ears, did not get heart rate and dismissed excessively itchiness when present and asked). Giving our pup shots was a doozy. They pricked him 3x before they could administer the vax which instantly had him on guard. Then after we left they called to say I had forgotten a medication to be administered later. This was not communicated at the visit. My husband and I left in a whirlwind of confusion about what we had just done, paid for and how vet clinic stuff works (again, first time pet parents in our 40s with no children… and when I set up the appt I mentioned we were new to pet ownership and emphasized we may need some additional guidance asking if this clinic would meet those specific needs for a new puppy). The front desk person was also detached and could not properly pronounce our pups name. (At least try or pretend - it wasn’t a riddle and I corrected her, for her to say it again wrong - as if she could have cared less). After I called to express my lack of trust following the appt, I made another appt with a diff vet and asked the fee be waived bc our 1st appt was confusing, aloof and dismissed our serious concerns about our dog having a skin issue (he was continuously itching and did so at the vet visit several times). A few days later they called me and said we needed to pick up 2 meds (not 1 to start with, and they insisted he needed 2 antibiotics bc that was what the vet suggested) for a giardia infection. They did not review options for treating the supposed giardia (which they said was in our pups fecal sample). I asked the time line for picking up the meds and the front desk gal simply insisted “you will get an email when meds are ready”. Our puppy was non symptomatic and in a home w/out other dogs. At the 2nd appt my husband went solo. He said the 2nd vet was not really engaged (either) and he did not feel any better. (They had encouraged him to get the 2 antibiotics a month later to treat the Giardia and had asked for another fecal sample as we had chosen not to treat it). Overall, when in doubt in don’t. My neighbor expressed a similar experience with Mt Tabor Vet Care. Apparently with her dog some 3 yrs ago they racked up $3000 in bills here with unnecessary meds and repeated tests when their girl had an issue. They finally went elsewhere to confirm their dog had a slipped disk in her back which they suspected (her walk was impaired). The meds and repeated blood tests were unnecessary had they pursued an xray it seemed. I wish I had asked my fellow dog owner neighbors before giving 2 appts to this place. They did not waive the fee nor charge for a nurse visit when I asked, in an effort to retain our business (which I emphasized and asked for very plainly). Our 2 vet appts were both around $300 each. Their fecal sample is around $80 each. I’m glad we didn’t bring his poop a 2nd time or the 2nd appt would have been some $400. Last, my husband is an MD and he treated our puppy’s skin itch at home w a low dose and course of prednisone. It went away after that. We hope to never again treat our puppy at home for an issue that was so persistent and disruptive (our lil guy was itching for minutes between all his activities including play, poop, eating, etc) and was very present at the initial vet visit.
Unfortunately, this place is more expensive compared to other vets in Portland and offers less in follow up service and when things don’t go smoothly… WAY less compassion and accountability than I’ve ever seen in any business. It’s all peaches and cream here until you deal with something a little harder than a nail trim and overpriced check up. I believe a clinic can be judged by how they take accountability with mistakes and I will tell you in my experience, there is none here. I have decided to leave this vet after being there since 2019. My dog has suffered longer than she should have had to by any basic standards of care with our most recent experience. It was upsetting and an exhausting and hard to see my pet go through this needlessly longer than she should have. Further, after this month and a half long journey, instead of getting a call and asking questions about my dog’s wellbeing….I received a late night call from the owner/vet worried I would write a review about my experience!! THAT should tell you everything you need to know about this place and the owner.
DO YOUR RESERCH WHEN DEALING WITH MT TABOR. They are money hungry, lying vets that only care about how many times they can get you in their office. When i went to get check ups for my cats and dogs, they ridiculed me for how i cared for my animals. It is ridiculous to have medical professionals lie to your face about what is and isnt healthy for your animal just to get more money from you. I also took my dog in to remove a mass cell cancer tumor. The surgery went okay but the healing process was a lot of work. The aftercare that they sent me home with was literally nothing. When I called because there were complications they wanted me to come in and pay another 200 dollars to tell me the aftercare for the 2000 dollar surgery. I have never walked out of a vet appointment, but I did that day. When I called then recently to try and get an appointment for an urgent care situation, they wouldn't give me an appointment for a month. I get that you have sick animals that are ahead of me but in a life threatening situation, you should be able to get an animal in before that time. If you have experience dealing with animals they really don't like that. They like to make things out to be a bigger deal than they are, and not give you proper information just to get your pet back into the office.
Dr. Lisa Williams took great care of my 9 yr old poodle boy, mr, after he had about 23 teeth removed. She explained to me her thought process and kept me updated throughout the day since it was an all day labor intensive surgery. The staff are always super friendly and the techs makes sure to use the tiny needles during vaccine visits. Dr. Williams even sent me photos as part of the surgery updates. The cost of the surgery was expensive, as expected with all pet care, but I could see how much care was put into the procedure and I felt relieved. The peace of mind is well worth the cost of the procedure. I trust the folks at Mt. Tabor and am so grateful to them. I went home with a care bag that had a little toy poodle sticker on it. Just such a sweet gesture. Thank you!!♥️♥️♥️
This crew has taken such good care of my little cat, Priya over the years. Priya just had her third dental cleaning and had four teeth extracted. Dr. Danielle and all of the nurses gave me frequent updates while my cat was under anesthesia which was very reassuring. They gave me a full, detailed assessment of the procedure and great home care instructions. I put all my trust into them. Thanks a bunch! -From Donica and Priya <3
Visiting Mt Tabor Vet Clinic was a great experience. I'm fostering my brother's dog and needed to ensure she had all needed vaccinations and to perform a health check. They were sensitive to her not being terribly well socialized and ensured that our first visit was easy. She also prefers women, so having a staff entirely made up of women was a huge bonus to Lola feeling comfortable. The whole team was attentive to our needs and worked to ensure that Lola was calm and comfortable through all of the examinations and vaccinations. In all, it was a great experience for both of us.
