Description WELCOME TO SHERWOOD SOUTH ANIMAL HOSPITAL Sherwood South Animal Hospital opened for business in 1975 when Dr. O. C. “Bob” Granzin relocated his practice from downtown Baton Rouge to South Sherwood Forest Boulevard. In 1979, Dr. Alfred Stevens joined the practice as a recent graduate from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. What began as a 3,400 sq. foot facility with three employees has since been rebuilt and redesigned to the current state-of-the-art, 12,000 sq. foot facility with over 50 employees.
I cannot praise Sherwood South enough! From the moment I stepped through their doors with my fur baby, I knew we were in the most capable and caring hands. The staff is nothing short of incredible – their expertise is matched only by their unwavering compassion and dedication to their furry patients. Beyond their warmth and friendliness, the staff at Sherwood excel in communication. They took the time to explain everything in a way that's easy for me to understand, ensuring that I feel informed and empowered to make the best decisions for my pet's health. They kept me updated with daily phone calls while my cat was staying there for surgery, and even went as far as to text me pictures of my sweet kitty. Whether it's discussing treatment options or providing advice on preventative care, they always go above and beyond to make sure I'm well-informed and in the loop with anything and everything regarding my baby. My financial concerns added so much stress to an already worrying situation, but they went out of their way to alleviate that burden. They work with me based on my financial abilities, offering options and solutions that fit within my budget without compromising the quality of care my cat receives. It's a level of understanding and empathy that's truly rare to find. I cannot recommend Sherwood highly enough. Their exceptional staff, personalized care, and genuine compassion make them the gold standard in veterinary care.
Last Sunday we took our cat, Mr. Mu to the vet because he was sick (vomiting and couldn't use the litter box). They charged us $150 just for being seen. They told us he had a urinary blockage and that we had 3 options. They recommend a $2000+ surgery to remove it but told us he would likely not survive. They then told us they could send him home with us with a catheter (no mention of pain medicine, sedatives or anything for him to be out of pain if we chose this option). Our final choice was to put him asleep. We wanted him to be free from pain so we chose to euthanize him. At the time I believed that those were our only choices. He was dehydrated as well and they didn't give him any fluids before being euthanized. We told the vet we wanted him wrapped so we could have an at home burial. They didn't ask how we wanted his body positioned so they just stretched him out as long as possible, packed him tightly in a trash bag, paper wrapped and taped over it too. Very cruel and callous! They gave us a discount for euthanizing him but gave no wiggle room for payment plan for the surgery option (very convenient for them). I've never experienced such cruelness towards owners and their patients... I can't help but feel that he'd still be with us today if we hadn't taken him to this corrupt animal hospital. If you love your pet, value your money and mental health do not ever consider taking your animal to this facility. I never loved an animal more than I did Mu. He made our home feel like home and helped us through 7 years of hard times (sounds so cliche but it's the truth). I am filled with immense regret for taking him here and probably will be for many years to come. He was an irreplaceable angel boy. Please for the love of God do not take your animals here!! If you do not have $3000+ in the bank they will pressure you to put your baby down. They treat the unprivileged as scum and I've heard those who end up paying the extortionist prices are deeply unsatisfied as well.
I would not trust my Sidney Jane's care to any other vet than Dr Albarado, and this amazing clinic. Last year my chocolate lab became suddenly ill.. She was not eating, had no energy, and just not acting like herself. I brought her in immediately, and was distraught. This was Sidney's first visit to Sherwood South.. She was taken back for an exam immediately and diagnosed with Addison's disease. This diagnosis is often missed. Because of the fast, accurate, diagnosis her life was saved.. The communication was outstanding while she was in the hospital. I will forever be grateful and, owe Sidney Jane's life to this amazing clinic and to Dr Albarado. Thank you! ❤️
If you have a pet that is sick I wouldn't take it to this hospital. Go to Nola. I took my Roxie here , the first vet was very professional and clear. I was that she would be getting ultrasound next morning, but I heard nothing until I called up there and a male vet called me back explained what he seen on ultra sound . I at that time was very clear don't sugar coat things because I did not want my dog to suffer. He told me that he felt like she did have cancer and that her spleen was extremely enlarged. He said that he wanted to do a biopsy which he never told me the risk of doing that number one and I asked him if she should stay after she had that done and he told me no that he was going to send her home with medication to make her comfortable. Which wasn't true. They sent her home with antibiotics and steroids, those are get well medications and nothing for pain. When I picked her up she was favoring her hind right leg and that only got worse.. My dog whined the entire time home, while I had her at the house. She would not eat anything and she would not even get up to drink. I had to put a bowl next to her. When I was able to get her to go outside to use the bathroom it was nothing but bloody stool. So I made the decision so my dog did not suffer anymore to have her euthanized and while I had to pay another 170 on top of the 1600 that I had already spent, they wanted me to spend another 200 plus dollars to have my dogs remains cremated. That is absolutely absurd seeing they did nothing for my dog except make her worse. Did not tell me the risk did not send home comfort medicine for her. Did not make sure that she was eating before she left the vet yet they want me to spend more money to have my dog cremated. All I can say is if you love your pet, you definitely should take your dog or your cat into New Orleans to the emergency vet there. I still can't even mourn the loss of my pet because I have to come up with more money to give to them within 2 weeks to have my dog cremated.. #Forroxie
Dr. Lee performed an emergency spleen and tumor removal in March 2020 that saved my 10 year old dog’s life. Since then we went to other vets in BR for regular visits but after a long battle with CCD I knew her time with me was ending and I decided to bring her back to Sherwood for end of life care in March 2024. Dr. Lee walked me through the process and made me feel confident in the very difficult decision I was making. The team was very kind and patient through it all. Though this was my first experience with humane euthanasia my mom said this was the best experience she’s had compared to the several other times she’s gone through this with past dogs at other vets around BR. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done but their team made it as easy as possible.
Do not bring your pups here. Took my puppy Biggie here, she was not feeling well. Left her there so they could monitor her. Called to get an update. Told me she passed three hours ago. I asked why nobody called me, and they stated someone dropped the ball to call me and the doctor went on lunch. I left a review on this place- they took it down. I’m rewriting the review so people are aware and don’t make the same mistake I did.
