I had a very good experience adopting from ARF. Kris was very responsive to my phone calls. I had requested a certain pet but was denied because that particular dog did not get along with cats. I was very appreciative that they were of the needs of the pets being adopted. I ended up adopting a wonderful dog for my current furry family. I am not 100% sure, but fairly certain that most that work at ARF are volunteers. This fact definitely represents their due diligence to place pets in a fitting environment. I agree the application process is quite tedious. However, again, the workers at the ARF organization are putting the animals first priority.
The negative reviews are silly... We had a wonderful experience adopting our dog from ARF. It was very easy for us. We were approved within 2 weeks. We still communicate with his foster parent because she was so wonderful and helped us acclimate our dog over multiple weeks to us and his new home/cat siblings. We were even first time dog owners, and were able to adopt a high-energy, working breed with no working breed experience. Our active lifestyle fit the dog we wanted, and we were easily approved. We made it very clear that we have the time, money and schedule to handle AND TRAIN a high-needs, working breed and that it was not a decision made lightly. Our dog requires 2-3+ hours of vigorous mental and physical exercise a day to sort of tire him out. We're talking daily field work/1:1 training, multi-mile runs at 4:30 in the morning EVERY day, vigorous hikes multiple times a week and 2 days of daycare a week. Many of the people that applied before us worked long hours and lived in apartment complexes that would not allow our dog. ARF is thankfully doing their due diligence to vet owners before they just release pets to whomever comes by first... That is likely how our dog ended up in a shelter in the first place. Highly recommend them. They will ensure that the dog you like the look of VISUALLY on their website is ACTUALLY a good fit for your family. Best case scenario for you and the dog. Would definitely adopt with ARF again in the future. (Dog tax included).
The staff at ARF was great, we told them what we were looking for and they got us the perfect dog for our needs. If your looking for a pet we highly recommend ARF.
Thank you so much for helping me with the adoption of Ernie. Couldn’t of found a better match. Staff was wonderful and facilities were great
I had an excellent experience with ARF. They were very communicative and I asked a LOT of questions. I applied for a puppy but she had already been claimed so they told me which other puppies were left. I came to the ARF house and visited and decided on my Beanie girl. She is the best. We waited another week until she was old enough to take her home and ARF continued to pay for her medical care through her puppy shots, deworming, spay, and microchip appointment. A lot of these negative reviews are about how thorough ARF is and I think it’s fantastic that they are so cautious about who they adopt animals out to! And they also pair pets with the families that are best for their personalities and needs instead of “first come, first serve” which….they’re animals, not furniture. I think it’s great :)
Everyone at ARF were very nice. We did not get the 1st kitten we wanted from them as they wanted them to go in pairs. We had to pick another & this 2nd Kitten picked us. She showed off & did tricks & loved on our 21 yo daughter & my self. (this was our daughters adoption). Everything just fell in to place. Piper is an Angel Kitten. She loves everyone so much but especially our daughter. She has been a part of our family from the second we held her & brought her home. She has a Super Sweet & gentle but playful disposition. ARF has exceeded our expectations with every question we have had. We highly recommend you try them 1st.
