Sooo happy we rescued a dog! This is a city run shelter and there far too many dogs & cats that need homes - but the people there are saints and doing their best! When my husband went there it was clean and the people were all upbeat and helpful. Did the girl type my name in wrong ? Sure - but who cares?? We adopted a beautiful little pup and she had kennel cough when we got her. They acknowledged it and gave us all the meds we need to clear it up. Are some of the dogs sick ? Yes - but these are STRAYS or mistreated dogs by the dirt bags of the world. And they are GIVING these dogs away with all the shots they should have, spayed & neutered and microchipped. If you cant take responsibly for a dog once you get it - don’t get one PLEASE! Our little Layla below - we could not be happier with her !!
My husband and I recently adopted a kitten for our male cat to have a friend. They had her already in a box when we went to pick up. We were just told pickup was 5-6, we called 5 times within 30 minutes and not ONCE did they answer the phone. When we got there they told us she was almost ready, just needed final bloodwork. We waited for over half an hour for them to finish and the whole time the phone was ringing not ONE TIME did they even GLANCE at it!!! Once finished they gave her to us in the box, she was meowing and clawing frantically inside. The interior of the box was chewed and ripped where she desperately tried to escape. Two of her legs were COVERED in fresh blood! I get just finishing blood work, but they didn’t even wipe her fur off. She was shaking the entire way home, the spay incision is the worst I’d seen, it even tried to open up a few times… a huge wadded lump at the base where they just squished her skin together with glue. She also had ear mites and FLEAS both of which she passed them onto our cat. The day we brought her home she was sneezing here and there, over the next 3 days she got worse coughing and sneezing. Then she passed that wonderful cold onto our full grown cat, it was so bad he stopped eating, lost almost 5 pounds and STILL has a cough. Just please be aware that the animals you are adopting could be costing you a $250+ medical bill per animal depending on how many you have, just because they do the basics that they’re legally required to do doesn’t mean they do them well. I now have to live with the fact that she was completely terrorized that entire day and has suffered so long afterwards because of this place. Please DON’T drop your animals here, they don’t take even GOOD care of them.
We recently moved to Tulsa from a rural area with two dogs. We were unfamiliar with the municipal licensing and spay/neuter ordinances so we headed to animal welfare for some info. Deb and Charlotte were super helpful. They answered all of our questions and got our license situation squared away. My wife greatly appreciated how warm and welcoming they were.
Got a beautiful cat from here about a week ago and absolutely adore her! They took great care of her, and even gave her a rabies shot right before adopting! Adopt animals people, it's worth it!!!
My daughter called and she drove almost 3 hours to get the dog. Than were rude and said no. It was a special needs animal. I'm so tired of their being rude and killing animals that could have gotten out and took straight to a vet to save it's life. We been getting tham out for a few years and finding them homes. And yes got proof of them and their awesome new homes. This dog people were trying to get out for a week. Nothing but lies and rude they are. My adventures with this shelter started in August of last year and i met people who has been getting dogs out for quite a few years and yes they have the same feelings I do.. Taws needs to be investigative for animal cruelty. Don't let them fool you. I bet they already killed this dog. Like 2 last August that people where interested in. They only got 3 days made me sick and they killed almost 30 to 50 a day for the five days I was there. I haven't or I should say ive been quite because I kept wanting to save .dogs lifes.. but now they stopping people from doing that. . I have complained to the city of Tulsa finally today .I have no doubt they lie on their numbers. I seen pens full of puppies in June this year that they killed. It's sick. . And after driving back from San Antonio today rescuing one from their shelter and seeing their nice shelter and how it was set up. I thought what the hell is Tulsa doing they just as big as that city. It hit me they just don't give a shit and hire people who don't give a shit.
This facility is a site of distress, with a staggering weekly euthanasia rate of 50 animals. My wife, who called from out of state regarding a dog named Shirley advertised for adoption, was instructed to complete an online application. After filling it out, we drove two hours only to be met with rudeness from the staff, who informed us that we could neither meet nor adopt Shirley, as her status had suddenly changed to "rescue only." This would mean she would be sent to another overcrowded facility, despite our readiness to provide her with a loving home and financial support. The staff's unhelpfulness and lack of compassion are baffling, especially since we have experience with special needs animals. It seems there is little concern for the well-being of these animals, and we are determined to raise awareness about this overcrowded shelter's practices. We plan to file a complaint with city officials and the media regarding Shirley's health. We were willing to wait for her and help financially in support to her care. Can't argue there
