Description Hanson-Meekins Animal Hospital has been serving the Bay Area since 1976. Dr. Hanson came to Coos Bay in 1975 and bought a building that was "zoned just right". This shack became the first Hanson Animal Hospital. After a nice red paint job, Dr. Hanson practiced for 20 years in that building as the sole practitioner. She called it "the little red building with a warm heart" and was always voted "the most popular vet in town". With a lot of hard work and devotion, the clinic has grown over the years. In 1994 Dr. Meekins joined Dr. Hanson and in 2000 they became partners. In 2004 another red building was built and formed what is now Hanson-Meekins Animal Hospital. We are now a 5 Dr. practice w/3 full time & 2 part time Veterinarians.

The care is worthy of 5 stars, but the greed knocks it down. Walk in only so they can see as many pets as possible to make the cash. This makes getting care impossible. Last 2 trips my parking lot wait time has been in excess of 2.5 hours in a hot car with my dogs. This is ridiculous and unconscionable. What vet requires dogs to sit in a hot car for over 2 hours to be seen?!??!! This one. Terrible customer service and they don't seem to care. Never in my life have I encountered vets with such little hearts. I imagine their bank accounts are nice and big, tho

Amazing people here. Our little bailey girl had her tail slammed in the door by our toddler and they were understanding, compassionate and on the ball. Fair prices and loving staff are hard to find but abundant here. My whole family appreciated the care for our fur baby Bailey.

Fantastic vets!! My dog Boo loves her "doctor people" and they adore her! So reasonably priced while being so caring and thorough. I feel so lucky that I found them to care for my fur baby!

We travel full time in our camper with our 3 dogs so we have been to vets all over the country. Our shepherd/lab mix, Shamus, has had seizures for years, somewhat controlled with medication and has been declining for sometime. While in the area, he had a seizure and never quite recovered and we knew it was time. Not knowing the area, we started looking for a vet and, after reading many not so great reviews, we came across Hanson-Meekins we knew this was where we had to go. We called at about 430p and were told we could bring him in the next morning. From the very first contact, we were treated with kindness and compassion. Upon arrival, we were greeted and told about the process with apologies for our situation. We met Dr. Meekins and instantly knew he was the one to help our sweet boy cross over. He was so kind, not only to Shamus, but to us as we were quite visibly devastated. The process was so very quick and painless. Dr. Meekins then made a plaster stamp of his paw with his name on it that we will cherish forever. Prior to the procedure, plans were made with a local mortuary for the cremation- they handled it all! After giving us time with our baby to say goodbye, Dr. Meekins walked us out the back way and we noticed the staff all stopped what they were doing and bowed their heads in respect for our loss. That, well, I’d never experienced anything like that. We are so grateful to all of you for making one of the hardest days of our lives bearable. We just can’t thank you enough for your compassion and obvious love for what you do.

Can't get your pet in and you can't get prescription food without getting your pet in. Terrible way to operate. If you actually cared about pets this wouldn't be your policy. Money grabbing vet office. Par for the corse these days.

Despite a rather lengthy wait (they don't do appointments, walk-in only), I felt that the vet was unhurried with my pet and did a very thorough exam. Super clean facility. Pagers available if you choose to wait outside or in your car. Very affordable prices and practical advice. No attempts to sell you anything you don't need.
