We brought in a baby bird that didn't have its fathers yet, so they said it was the right thing to do. All we can do is hope for the best, and they did an amazing job in the intake. With wildlife, I hope people know they need to have realistic expectations. Bunnies numbers are very high, and I've had my dogs destroy a nest, so I had to finish off the bunnies myself once... not fun, but sometimes ending their lives for whatever reason is the most humane thing. I trust this wildlife refuge. If you can't handle the truth then is suggest you either don't ask for an update if you want it to end happy 100 % (the intake and you have a baby or injured animal a chance). OR just chuck the baby bunnies over the fence or off your yard like my neighbors do. Nature is hard, and life is brutal at times--no matter if you are human or another species! The staff and volunteers helped SO much and got this baby bird to the incubator. Good luck growing feathers, little buddy. If you don't make it, we'd understand... we tried our best!
I called for advice and was told to bring in the baby mice i had found in for a wellness check. I had stated I had been nursing it back to health and they said bring it in just to make sure she was getting the proper nutrition. Upon arrival they rudely took her and I waited to see what they would tell me. The person came out and told me the vet said it had to stay. I asked what was wrong with her and they wouldn't tell me anything and started to tell me it was illegal to keep wildlife. I said I wasn't trying to keep it as a pet but trying to give it a chance at life and the objective was to release when ready. I had her for 4 days and she went from practically lifeless to taking feedings with a zest. I had a terrible feeling leaving that place and having to leave her behind. Now that I've read the other reviews I see I'm not alone. I hope my dedication to 2 hour feedings and getting up in the night for days was not for nothing. I felt I was lied to about the wellness check and was not shown any compassion for my concern over the life I was trying so hard to save.
Update: My little guy didn’t make it. It a fractured shoulder. 😢 I brought in this young house sparrow I found. Its head was stuck in this mesh fence wiring someone was using so their dogs wouldn’t get out. Unfortunately it’s small enough that a bird can get their head through but not their body. I saw it flapping and struggling. It wouldn’t fly off and I didn’t know where it came from or what to do. So I brought it here. So thankful such a place exists and close by. Little guy was probably like I got out of my nest, got my head stuck, a lady helped me, she took me to her apartment, I saw her parrots, I went on a car ride and here I am, what a long day.
I had an injured raccoon end up in my yard who had been ran over by a car and his back legs weren’t working and I didn’t know what to do. I called cops and animal control for 4 DAYS and they claimed someone would stop by to handle it. Well they never showed up. I found this place online and I thought it sounded amazing. I called to make sure I could bring a raccoon into their facility and they were nothing but kind and offered to take him. The car ride was…. Interesting. To say the least. We get there and they take the raccoon ( I named him rocket) and asked me a few questions. I 100% donated cause I want the little guy to get better. As injured as he was, he was still SOOOOO energetic and full of life, he had a will to live. I’m so happy I found this place and I know they’ll take good care of him and do all they can do ethically. Please take care of him, everyone who knows about him for the past 4 days has grown to love the little guy <3
I brought in a bird that flew into a window at my work. When I got to the center they helped right away to save the little guy. Super friendly staff and I have high hopes now for the little bird. Thank you !
Just brought in a baby squirrel. The staff were amazing on the phone and in person. I am thankful places like this exist to help out the wild critters in distress.
