We just got Eva from Saving Shepherds. I have had 3 other save dogs since 1991. She is by far the best trained dog I have ever adopted. Saving Shepherds makes sure dogs are ready for a new home and if there are issues, they get the dog the training they need for a smooth transition. What a great organization to work with!
I tell nearly everyone how lucky we are to have adopted our wonderful German Shepherd. The credit goes to Saving Shepherds of Mn. The application process was somewhat long, but the service was professional yet personable, and the results were completely worth every moment. I had my eye on a particular adult GSD, but Saving Shepherds suggested a different one that was more suitable for our family. And boy, were they right. We could not have a better dog. I describe SSofMn as the matchmaking company for man’s best friend. Though the application process may seem cumbersome, I assure you the volunteers are working overtime to ensure they match each GSD to their perfect home. They consider lifestyle, household situation, location, Shepherd breed knowledge, etc. They are picky, and rightfully so. We are so thankful for Saving Shepherds because now we have the bestest big boy, Mr. Regal, goofball, family-loving dog ever, named Carter (formally known as Houston).
Here’s one of the cases they rescued. Before & now! They do wonderful work. All being ran by volunteers in their personal time. They save as many as they can.
As someone who fosters for Saving Shepherds I am in awe of the the owner and volunteers who run this rescue. They work full time jobs on top of the rescue but are always very responsive when I have a question or need to get one of my foster dogs into the vet. I love that they aren’t a first come first serve rescue as they thoroughly review all applicants and make sure the dog is placed with the best family possible. They spare no expense and invest in training, when needed, that set the dogs up for success. I couldn’t ask for a better rescue to foster for.
Top notch rescue run by a couple of people who have demanding full time jobs. They care, are passionate and committed to help save as many dogs as they possible can. Our last German Shepherd was adopted from Saving Shepherds and it has been a most satisfying experience!
Very unresponsive, requires basically a background check before anyone can even look at a dog. I own my own house on 22 acres, experience with the German Shepherd breed, references from both trainers and vets, years of experiences working with dogs, but the group didn't want to work with me. This is the worst way to run a rescue. I have no problem jumping through hoops to get a dog after I've seen it and want to adopt but this upfront discrimination is appalling. They won't even tell me why I wasn't approved. Edit: I already e-mailed them asking again why I am not approved. They will not respond to my e-mail but a google review they are 100% on top of.
