I just wanted to give the BIGGEST shoutout to B Street Veterinary Hospital in Golden Hill/South Park. 💜 Early March our German Shepherd Lucy experienced a major medical emergency. We called all around to the major animal emergency hospitals and they were all full/at capacity and couldn’t see her for 4+ hours. We took a chance to stop by at B Street and they IMMEDIATELY took her in even though they were also very busy. Dr. Olsen (she’s absolutely incredible, super intelligent, and extremely kind!) instantly recognized that this was a life/death situation and that she needed an emergency splenectomy. Unfortunately, Lucy was diagnosed with an aggressive form of hemangiosarcoma (common in GSD/GldRetr). Despite this devastating news, the compassion, care, and kindness that we received from Dr. Olsen and the entire staff that day were beyond what we could have imagined. They really treat all furry family members as if they were one of their own. Unfortunately we lost Lucy about 4 weeks later and were devastated again… we had always hoped for more time despite the prognosis. It’s always hard to lose a pet, someone who is essentially a family member. We raised her from a puppy and watched her grow with us through every birthday, holiday, and milestone... the fact is that the years are never enough. And even on her last few days with an aggressive form of cancer growing in her, Lucy was energetic and her adorable loving/happy self (dogs are incredible in that way… i can only hope to have the same energy and happiness on my last day). From the days following that we have been in awe of our treatment from B Street. They were very sympathetic the day we had to PTS and even provided Lucy with a bowl of treats (pizza, cheese, weenies, treats, and chocolate!! 🍫😂💕). Later on that week we received this letter in the mail from B Street that contained her paw prints and we thought it was such a simple but beautiful gesture. We are all so grateful to the doctors and staff at B Street Veterinary Hospital who have helped us throughout this difficult month and will continue to be avid supporters of them. 🐶💜
Let me start by saying this is a walk-in clinic. Unfortunately, I did have to use the services here. My dog had to go in the day before Thanksgiving because he was having difficulty with urination. He was able to be seen and was given a catheter. The doctor explained what was going on and provided me with antibiotics. The lab also demonstrated the way to remove the catheter bag and empty it. The staff was so helpful and beyond wonderful! My dog is my family, and I am so grateful for this team. My dog goes into surgery Friday for stone removal, and he will be good as new thanks to this amazing team!
The receptionist Bernice, the person with the colored hair, was very unprofessional. I told them my dog is an emergency patient and that he had been vomiting blood. Bernice responded in a sassy manner "dogs vomit blood all the time, but okay." No thank you, I'll have my boy seen elsewhere. Please let me know through the photos if it's normal for dogs to vomit this. Regardless though, the response I got was uncalled for an unsympathetic.
This is a great veterinary hospital. People are friendly looks like they love their job JAX’S, my cocker spaniel felt comfortable in the place and they found the Jack says in her ear infection, and they detailed how to apply all the antibiotics and stuff for his ear one more thing this hospital also does pro bono work for the homeless?
My previous dog received most of her care here and it was a pleasant experience. When she passed away, we felt supported by Dr. Olson and had no complaints. Their walk in system was slow but it was fine and never took more than 3 hours. We got a new dog and since January 2024 we brought her to B Street and the experience has been horrible. Their system for walk-ins has become overcrowded and is not efficient anymore. I had a particularly frustrating experience the last time I visited. The most recent visit, I took my dog for treatment for kennel cough and got to the vet at 8 am. I understood my dog needed to be separated due to being contagious and we got a room at 11 am. We then sat in the room until 12:30pm and saw a vet. The vet saw us for 5 minutes and noted my dog may have a heart murmur but she is using a stethoscope that she wasn’t used to and wasn’t sure. She told me to have someone check it next time - I found this somewhat frustrating since heart murmurs can be serious and she didn’t offer to have someone else confirm or deny it being her stethoscope or an actual concern. After the doctor left at 12:35pm we then waited until 1:35pm for the medicine and bill. I used to love B street but with the most recent experience, I will not be coming back. A vet visit for a non emergency medical condition should not take over 5 hours and the vet should not mention a concerning condition and not verify if it is her tool or an actual cause for concern. We really loved the previous care our last dog received, but B Street cannot maintain the current way they run their practice without visits taking over a patient’s entire day.
I brought my old girl here for the worst possible reason, but they truly made the experience as good as it could have been. This was my first dog (first pet at all), so I'd never gone through this process before, and I had just moved from across the country and hadn't found a vet yet. In the early hours of the morning, my girl had suffered a stroke, so we had no warning and no appointment. After accepting the facts, my family and I spent three hours driving around to vets trying to find someone who could take a walk in. We were finally recommended this place and even the call I made to ask about availability was as kind as could be. The woman who answered offered condolences, was patient with me while I tried to give my information through sobs, and even booked us an actual appointment so we didn't have to wait in line and draw this out any further (I was told they take walk ins but the line can get long). When we arrived, we were taken right to the exam room, they took my girl back to get her set up, walked me through all the paperwork, and then brought her back in so we could say goodbye. They gave us the thickest blanket I've seen in my life to wrap around her, and a button to push when we were ready. When the vet came in, she talked to us about our girls life, walked us through every step of the process, and even went out of her way so that my girl could stay laying in my lap. Before every injection, I was asked if I was ready, I was able to sit with my girl afterwards for as long as I needed, at no point was I rushed, and I appreciated that I didn't have to worry about any paperwork afterwards. Then, to top it all off, about a month later I received the sweetest condolences card from them, which also contained paw prints and a sample of my girls fur (which I had completely forgotten to save and was heartbroken about it). Even the company they partner with for cremations was amazing (they included a cast of her paw and certificate with her ashes). When I do get another dog, I will absolutely be bringing them here. I genuinely can't imagine a better way to have experienced one of the worst days of my life. From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of my family as well, thank you so so much to everyone here. <3
