Disappointing and Painful, with just a hint of good at the start of it all. I am sorry that this is as long as it is, but for the people that care about bringing their loved one's here, I have my grievances. My 90yo Grandfather's health started to fall due to age and dementia around Late 2022. No recourse but to have him admitted to keep him save from himself around mid August '23. We knew he could never go back home so most of the family understood that he would be there until his passing. He wasn't happy but he was accepting of things. Started at Floor 3, Rehab Floor. Which was amazing. Clean, Orderly, Pleasant to be in, Amazing and attentive workers. He was pleasantly confused but was still mostly noticing who his family was and talking with his visitors. But then mid Nov he was transferred to Floor 1, Long Term Care. For Behavioral Issue Patients. In his dementia, he was pleasantly confused and a fall risk, not a person that needed to be worried about acting out. That Floor was terrible. Soiled linen in the halls untouched for hours, foul smell in the halls at all times, most patients (20+) all together in the Single common Room most of the day. At least 4 patients at all times acting out. Clothes and items would constantly be switched with roommate or just forever lost. At most 4 workers on hand, wishes for things to be done very slowly if rarely acted upon. It wasn't long until he become withdrawn into himself and truly gave off the feeling of "leave me alone" Yes his dementia was getting worse, but it was like a switch was flipped so impossibly quickly. Last week he suffered one last fall that harmed his head and his health took a terrifyingly fast decline. The Last 3 days he was almost fully unresponsive and we didn't want him moved out of his bed. On the 2nd day he was STILL brought out into the common room and we had to bring him back into his room. We needed to put a sign up in the hopes they would at least read it. He was then placed on Hospice which was the one thing that was ACTUALLY for once done quickly and the morphine was administered before long. We were promised that he would get administered more every four hours and they had enough for the weekend. And on the 3rd day we got there and after being there for 8 hours did we find out that not only was he not given any morphine in the last 18 hours, they were completely out on the entire Floor. So ???. And only after raising are concerns to the Main Supervisor did we finally get one last dose to him before long. After leaving for the night and saying are goodbyes to him, he passed away a few hours later. At least he wasn't in pain the last few days of his life, and I was able to get a Priest in to read him his last rights. We are all very happy we will never have to return to this place again. I only have my other grandmother left, I'll be damned if she'll be going here to. Go to Betsy Ross Nursing Facility in Rome instead, my other grandfather had a short few week stay there when his health also started to fail back in the start of January '24. He later had to be transferred out and passed away back in Oneida hospital at the end of January. But Betsy went about and behind for him during his stay.

The transportation provided by The Grand has been a big plus for our family. Each experience has been positive & organized. Gary & his team make the process smooth. Drivers have given their own coats to keep our family member warm. Thankful for all of them

I’m giving this review because I had a loved one that recently had a lengthy stay at The Grand in Rome. I wanted to provide this 5 star review based on two different departments that were extremely accommodating while they were there. These departments made a stressful time in our lives a little brighter! First, I want to thank Roxanne the unit clerk. She went above and beyond for us. She always found a way to make sure that appointments were kept by ensuring transportation was available when outside transport WOULD NOT show up. This made all the difference in the recovery process. Second, I need to include a big thank you to the transportation department which includes the supervisor Gary, and his team of Joses…oh and Mike for always making sure that appointments were kept. I know that the appointments were scheduled 1.5 hours away and Gary and his team made this trip for us multiple times a week to ensure we received the medical treatment was needed for discharge. Without these two departments, I do not believe that discharge would have been possible as quickly as it was. I could never thank them enough. With that being said, my 5 star rating is solely for those TWO departments above. Our entire experience as a whole with The Grand was not all great. I feel that admissions needs a lot of work before they can be rated as highly as other departments within that facility. Admissions had made promises to us that they did not keep. I do not agree with these types of behaviors in order to get people into that facility. Also, nursing could use some additional training on patient care, there were several instances were call bells were not answered timely. There were long waits for medications even when they were scheduled. This needs major improvement!

Transportation: Gary, his driver's & RA's have done a phenomenal job getting me to & from my appointments safely. The level of care & attention to detail put me at ease. Appointments in Rome, Onidea, Syracuse or Rochester on time if not early no worries or stress.

Just want everyone know at the Grand especially Jeannie Early (Social worker) I am truly grateful for all your hard work and dedication taking care of my brother. Not a day goes by that I see the intestinal fortitude within you. I am so relieved knowing he is in good hands and taking care of his everyday needs. Thank you Claudia Decker

I am giving this 5 star review to Gary and Jose in the transportation department. After medical transportation failed to show up to take me to my appointment for the third time.Gary was able to rearrange a few things that allowed Jose to get me to my appointment. Thank you guys you are the best
