Description The Arizona Humane Society's Rob & Melani Walton Papago Park Campus is now open! This campus will allow us to offer comprehensive medical interventions in a world-class animal trauma hospital paired with behavioral care for pets at a level not seen in the United States. It will serve as a regional hub providing acute medical and trauma care, behavior rehabilitation, adoption resources, and education programs for both children and adults and work in tandem with our other two campuses.
The campus was very nice and had a veterinarian area right next door as well as a Mini pet store to buy items. Of course, the pet store is not cheap, but some of the proceeds would go to the humane society. You get a nice discount at their store if you're adopting a pet. It's so nice, They have a free adoption day every few months. But you have to be careful even though they have a text service for the wait. If you let them know that you're leaving for a few minutes, they will put you to the bottom of the line. That's what happened to me. I didn't even get a text notification that they were going to call me, or that my time had come. It was still worth it though
100% recommend this place. Pros: -Friendly, welcoming staff -Clean, modern facility -Cats are very well-cared for -Easy to interact with cats -Self-guided (do not have employees hovering) -Can meet and greet as many cats as you like -Covered parking available -handicap accessible Cons: -If a cat has a health issue, it is listed on their info card but not explained, so you need to ask an employee. It is a minor inconvenience, but it would be helpful if more details were on the card to avoid repeatedly asking the volunteers. Full review: This place is fantastic! The building is very new, modern, and CLEAN! The receptionist greeted us with a warm smile and was more than happy to answer all our questions. The place has 10 pods (rooms) of cats, each with a mix of kittens and adult cats of various colors and personalities. The cats are kept in nice enclosures - partly open with bars for easy viewing and interaction and partly private where shy kitties can curl up. Each cat has wet food, dry food, water, a blanket, non-clay-based litter, toys, and a scratch pad. Volunteers are constantly around, refilling food and water, cleaning enclosures, and spending time with the cats (even sneaking a treat or two). Moreoever, the volunteers and staff on the cat floor were enthusiastic about answering our questions. When we found a couple of cats we liked, we went downstairs and added our name to a short (10 min) waitlist to get a private meet-and-greet room. In the private room, a volunteer told us more about the cat before introducing us and leaving the room, letting us bond with the cat one-on-one. It was wonderful to hold and play with the kitty, really getting a feel for if we have that special connection - unlike other rescues where you can only pet the cats while inside their crates and with staff hovering over you (Halo rescue). About 15 minutes later, the volunteer returned to check on us, and when we asked for a few more minutes, he gladly obliged and left us to continue our visit. While we did not end up adopting a cat today, we are definitely coming back to adopt in the near future!
I've officially been an adopter for 3 months now to "Patrice" renamed "Penelope". She is the sweetest girl and we couldn't be more grateful for her. This location is clean and modern, and the staff I encountered was so polite and willing to help. I love love that this is a no kill facility. All dogs deserve a chance at a good loving home. P is a great addition to our home, and we love having her around.
I love volunteering here. Everyone is nice and doesn’t limit what I can do (I have a vision impairment and I run into that discriminating behavior a lot). The dogs are a joy to work with. I love coming back each day to see furry friends get adopted and new faces that are ready for a new home. I adopted a cat from here and he is lovely.
although i am sure the humane society is a great place to adopt animals, they are not the same when it comes to taking them in. The person on the phone assumes that you know every detail about the animal you are trying to bring in. I estimate the age range but i’m not sure because i’m not an expert and suddenly the baby kitten smaller than my hand is not eligible. The cat I have with flesh hanging from its neck and arms isn’t eligible because i said the wounds have “started healing” and that sounds like “typical wounds from when cats mate.” This is someone’s cat who is so loving and was not meant to survive outside. I understand you can’t take in every animal that someone tries to bring. I understand they have protocols and limits but the woman on the phone was not hearing or understanding just how serious my matters were. They would rather take in injured animals who are too serious to live so that they don’t actually have to deal with them. I’ll include a picture of the kitten to show just how small he is.
I am so happy to have Chula the chihuahua, my sweet new bestie, at home with me!! I was so impressed by every single person I spoke to, from the foster team to the medical team to the receptionists. Every person seems passionate about what they do and I felt like Chula was in the best hands when I took her in for her appointments. I took her home from being spayed with all the meds we needed and clear instructions about how to care for her while she recovers. I feel so lucky to have found my dog through fostering and would highly recommend to anyone considering fostering or adopting! The team at AZ Humane Society has your back with all the resources, support, and info that you need.
