Description Our Wild Neighbors is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the understanding of nature and the protection of wildlife through education and the rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned animals. Licensed wildlife rehabilitators are available via phone to advise on wildlife-related emergencies and other questions as well as in the center to receive injured or orphaned wildlife.
Such a great organization. I found an injured bird at a dog park and brought her in. They are taking great care of her in hope that she'll make a full recovery. If you can support this organization, please do.
I unexpectedly became a foster mom to a domestic duck who had been abandoned into a state park. OWN took the little fellow in, and I'm so grateful to them for their help in what was a stressful situation for me.
These people are wonderful. They have taken injured turtles for me and given me phone assistance when needed. It's not easy to find a wildlife rescue that has an actual facility - most in this area are private individuals, so contacting is more random. Very happy to have Our Wild Neighbors here to help the injured and/or misplaced animals.
I felt very uncomfortable with the lady we spoke with. She never once smiled and treated us like criminals. We rescued a small squirrel and took her to this place. Our dog killed 2 of it's siblings who were trying to come down from a tree in mid to late October. She was too young to be by herself and I tried reaching rehabilitators in our area but never got any answers nor call backs. We kept the squirrel through the winter and now that she's a little older and bigger and the weather is warmer, we finally found these people to take her to. We were constantly reminded that it was illegal to keep squirrels as pets in our state. We never treated the squirrel like a pet, no holding or petting, simply feeding wild squirrel feed and apple slices, acorns, pecans, walnuts, corn and seed. She was too young to be alone when our dog was trying to kill her too. We just kept her safe through the winter and cooler months. It's June 11th now and she's not even a year old yet. We were treating her as a wild animal and never tried to domesticate her. Yet we were reminded several times that it was illegal to keep squirrels as pets. Again, we didn't have her as a pet. We simply gave her a safe place until she was big enough to be reacclimated to the wild. I do admire the people who work to protect wildlife and work to rehabilitate them. I would love to do that kind of work. We were never trying to break the law, simply saving the little squirrel's life. Thank you for the work you do but please work on how you treat people who are just trying to do the right thing. If we didn't do what we did, the poor little thing would have suffered an excruciating death. WE DID THE RIGHT THING BY THE SQUIRREL. PERIOD. Treat people with respect and understand that sometimes there are extenuating circumstances that can't be avoided when someone is trying to do the right thing all along.
I found two baby orphaned opossums. Didn't have a clue of what to do. Called a local vet and found out about this wonderful place. Very great, caring and friendly staff. So glad to learn about this place and learn about what these critters do for us. Adrienne took me on a tour which made me appreciate what they do even more. 🙌
So glad these lovely people do what they do! They took in five orphaned baby possums who lost their mom due to an animal attack. They walked me through what to do and how to care for the babies while transporting them. Please donate to them if you can. God bless them!
