We loved this place! It is located in an old town tourist shopping area. Two pay parking lots can be utilized directly across the street. The animals all appear well cared for and content in the back of the shop. The front of the shop is half museum and half gift shop. Fun souvenir items to be had here.

The Rattlesnake Museum & Gift Shop is a for-profit business in Old Town Albuquerque; it is not a non profit. The word “museum” in a business name is not regulated in the United States. The business is a small collection of snakes (including ones not are not rattlesnakes), tarantulas, a scorpion, and a few other assorted reptiles and amphibians. The business is a self-guided walk-through after entering through the gift shop. There is not a hand-out on the different animals or an audio recording option. The animals are labeled with what species they are. I think a small sign with information about each of the animals would be quite helpful. The aquariums seem much too small for the snakes. Many of them wouldn’t be able to stretch out even half way, much less fully stretch out. I hope the snakes are let out each day to move around and stretch, but I don’t know if that would be logistically possible. Cute things about the business include the fact there are two tortoises that get free roam of the premises and the fact customers get a Certificate of Bravery for visiting. It’s also in Old Town so shopping and activities are close.

Best animal sanctuary ever! There’s so many cute snakes, and they’re all rescues and they seem so happy and well-cared for. The person running the museum was so friendly and passionate about his job too, and the gift shop has some goodies. Also they will come rescue rattlesnakes in bad situations if you call their emergency line, which is SO COOL

Great museum! Everywhere you turn, you get something new and exciting. The snakes and other critters look very well taken care of. A good place to take kids, but it is small, so mind your space. Owner and volunteer were very approachable and kind - their souvenirs are top quality!

We go to a lot of museums but this one gave us more pleasure than many. It is a special place curated by a love and passion for these often misunderstood creatures. It’s an educational experience as much as entertainment. We highly recommend it. Say hi to the retired biology teacher/owner, Bob, when you are there. He does a great job and has not lost his passion to educate. Good for adults alone or adults with children.

The Rattlesnake museum is not to be missed. It seems small but wow there is so much in there!! Truly worth the time. And, side note, I completely want to cuddle the tortoises!!
