My wife Jennifer is a relief Veterinarian Technician and works shifts there from time to time.We don’t have a regular veterinarian for our old man Wrigley, a Dalmatian 12 years old. He is having issues and she brought him with her to work a shift. They looked at him and took amazing care of him. They are amazing people there. Don’t hesitate to visit there clinic. Top notch staff and veterinarian!!!!

Edit - Their response is a complete lie as well. They apologized to both my partner and myself and tried to claim their technician made the mistake. Now they’re just outright lying. To the owners: you should learn from this experience not lie deny it and gaslight people. Either your staff is lying to you or you are liars. Jennifer is the one who made the apology to both Jacky and myself. Additionally, it was never explained that it was a contraindication, nor did you make any attempt to educate. The gabapentin was already prescribed so you did not offer any alternate medication either. Stop lying to people. Original post: They absolutely lie and tell you bloodwork is California law when it is not for prescriptions. I sincerely hope people read this so they are not tricked by this unethical practice. This happened on multiple occasions… Only when I called them out and asked which California law they are referring to did they admit that there is in fact, no law. The only law is annual visits. I used this vet for many years and unfortunately in the past few, they have become dishonest and shady. $1200 dental quotes ended up being $2400. It’s very sad too because they did not used to be this way. During a visit today - when trying to refill a prescription, I was told by California law bloodwork had to be done for over $200. Additionally after questioning, they came back with a different blood work “package”for half the price and said that was all which was necessary. This itself is unethical by not giving the choice to the customer initially - trying to pretend as if their most expensive is the only one. It’s unthinkable to lie and say something is California state law so that people cannot make the proper choice for their pet because they do not think they have one. I simply called ABC vet clinic (very close) and got an appointment/prescription instantly without blood work. (I was also told very frankly the truth about California law) Please do not support this business and go somewhere that loves animals enough to look out for their best interest, not lining their pockets with profits . To the owners of San Marcos veterinary clinic : if you have to lie to people to make money, it only shows how low your confidence is in your ability to do proper business. Shame on you. You are being reported to California state boards.

Dr. Smolen is the best! It’s so refreshing to have a vet who shows a genuine interest in both you and your pet and who doesn’t try to upsell you. We highly recommend her for all your pet needs!

Laura was amazing at assisting the relief vet today when I had to bring in my pug Dolly. We usually only schedule with Dr. Ichord but was happy to get an appointment this morning. Laura was kind and compassionate. She reviewed costs with me before anything was done and thoroughly reviewed instructions for meds to take home for Dolly. Dolly is one of four of my furbabies and it was a stressful morning for both of us. Thank you so much Laura for your kindness today. :)

My Mini-Pincher was the love of my life. I raised her from 6 weeks old. When she needed surgery during the holiday's no vet would work on her in Arizona or Southern CA except San Marcos. They gave my girl the best care possible

We started using San Marcos Veterinary Clinic in 2019 and our dog could not be happier. They provide excellent care and service. Their prices are the most reasonable around San Diego County too.
